Am i right in thinking the way to sex flame Tetra is to look at their anal fins.

So the above flame would be a male due to a pointed anal fin and edged in black ????

This from SF will answer your question:

Adult males tend to be less deep-bodied, slightly smaller, and more intensely-coloured than females. Males also possess bony hooks in the anal and pelvic fins which are absent in females, and the distal portion of the anal-fin is slightly straight in males, falcate anteriorly in females.

Males do have a black boarder on their anal fine. They are nice looking fish. I am into tetra and was thinking of having these

Flame tetras are one of the fish I am looking at for my new 30 gallon forest tank. They are very nice looking, how do they get along with fish of similar size?

You wont have a problem with them getting along with other similar sized fish. Very peaceful :)

I have only got cories with mine but they was with lemon Tetra in my LFS which is a combo i was going to have if i didnt have barbs. Look beautiful in a planted tank

Think you can get orange flame tetra too but i perfer the reds

Little video of them here. (Sorry its not the best)

This was the morning after i introduced them to the tank. Didnt take long to settle and are really colouring up nicely now

I have ember tetras in my 55 gallon tank, Tiny compared to other tetra but look nice and very peaceful. The lemon tetras sound cool. I will have to look at them too. So many fish so little tank space :fish:

They are active, I like that, my glow light tetras are like that even more than my neon tetras. I heard your bird in the background. I miss my birds they were always talking to me.

Yeah they are active. A nice active tho, not like Danio's. Thats my Daughters budgies. I put the music on to tone them down a bit lol

If that was Rosie our African grey in the back ground id have no chance of toning her down. You would have "put the kettle on" "cup of tea" "KIDS DINNER" lol anything to pull my attention away from the fish :D

I had several budgies over the years and a set of love birds that were rescues. They all were great and would sit on my shoulder and talk to me. I miss them but with 2 cat, 2 labs (bird dogs) and all my fish and turtles I would really be pushing my luck with the Misses:wub: if I picked up another budgie:no:

My lad loves the turtles at my LFS. I said we may get some one day.

If you dont mind me asking, what kind of set up do you have for them? Pretty easy to care for? :)

I have a 20 gallon tank that I have in a bay window so they get plenty of sun in the winter and a kids pool for the summer. You have to do a large water change and vacuum the tank every week. I have had them since they were babies and now they are 26 year old.
