not from breeding.

its either a bacterial or protozoan infection, most likely bacterial.

what else is in the tank?

do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate. make sure new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it's added to the tank.

add 2 heaped tablespoons of rock salt, sea salt or swimming poll salt, per 20 litres (5 gallons) of tank water. keep salt in tank for 2 weeks and see how they go.

if it gets worse rapidly you will need a broad spectrum medication to treat them.

I recently added 5 neon tetras and 1 bristlenose plec.

I noticed a patch of brown algae on the sand , I just did a 20% plus change 2 days ago I will do another when my gravel cleaner arrives tomorrow as the neons are apparently more sensitive to the temp change.
