So I found this on eBay, when I was browsing fish, what do you guys think is this correct? If it is I’m going to keep it on hand as I think it’s quite informative for stocking fresh water tanks :)

I don’t see why koi aren’t compatible, weird. I would say it’s incorrect. ;)
 
And, guppies are compatible with goldfish. I’d say ask your LFS, or the forum, if you are planing a tank, And what to stock it with. :)

They are pretty much compatible with any with (almost, there are a few exceptions) fish, as long as you have room. :)

Koi aren't compatible with almost all the fish in the table because koi are cold water pond fish and the incompatible fish are tropical.

But it is too general to useful and has some glaring errors - eg mollies can be kept with a lot of soft water fish.
I wonder if the table was drawn up by someone who only considered fish size and ignored other compatibility requirements.

Never ask an LFS about fish, most of them haven't a clue and will say any rubbish.
 
I would not use this as a stocking guide. Haven't looked at all the details a it does not display well on a phone. But several of the add with caution suggestions are best avoided. It also only seems to focus on what will kill what (there are inaccuracies here too). It does not take into account water hardness and to a lesser extent temperature requirements. I noticed at least one example of compatable fish that cannot live in the same water. They may not kill each other but the water will kill one of them sooner or later.

Seriouslyfish.Com is a good starting point for researching species requirements.

Most smaller LFS’s have a lot better advice/tips. I would never trust say a PetCo to tell me what I needed to get.

My point exactly. I was saying that they would be compatible with most cold water species you would find in a pond. ;)
 
In my experience, most small LFS are just as bad as the big stores. I've overheard some terrible advice in some small local LFS. One suggested I could have an angelfish in a tank that was way too small, for example.


I read your post as saying you couldn't understand why koi were not listed as compatible with other fish, sorry!
 
Thanks guys I definitely won’t be using this table as a reference and will ask here in future :D and my LFS a small one and pets at home have both given advice which hasn’t been right regarding tank sizes and cleaning so I wouldn’t trust them as far as I would throw them especially pets at home for advice :lol: although it does make me wonder how they call the team members aquatics specialists :huh:
 
I haven't been in the fish department at a P@H for a long time. Last time I was there they had a questionaire - how big is the tank, how long has it been running etc - but I had the distinct impression that while they were making careful note of the answers, they hadn't a clue why they were asking. And they refused to sell more than 6 fish to any customer regardless of the tank size. They were just given a script to work from and could not deviate from it.
 
It is generally impossible to have a chart like this one because of all the relevant factors. But aside from that, there are some terrible errors here...all those fish listed as cautionary with rift lake cichlids for example, that is very inaccurate, they have vastly different water parameter requirements not to mention their behaviourial incompatibility.
 
They didn’t do that the last tine I went in they didn’t ask how big my tank was or what I had in it, or even what the water was salt/fresh, they have some sort of point system for when you buy stuff off them now though :blink:
