Swim bladder?

Do not add any leaves, it won't help his breathing.

Do a 75% water change every day until the air clears and there is no more smoke.

Get a box filter from the pet shop and put "Activated Carbon" or "Highly Activated Carbon" in it. Rinse the carbon under tap water first to remove any black dust. Run the box filter in the tank along with his normal filter until the fires have finished and there is no more smoke. The carbon will help remove the smoke from the water.

Put a towel under the air pump to help filter out smoke and stop the pump pumping smokey air into the tank.

Ok, I'll get the filter. He's been floating all day, he manages to swim down some. I wanted to take out half or a third of the water so he doesn't have to work so hard but the way the filter is I can't.
Other than that he looks pretty good, his color is real good and he swims around but gets tired. I know he has an appetite so that's good.

I couldn't find water sprite but I got java fern and attached it on the drift wood and also java moss which I thought would float but it didn't.
How long should I not feed him? He had a tiny bit 2 days ago but I hate feeding him if he's still bloated.

Feed him every day to help push the air through his body. Try to use frozen (but defrosted) or live food, rather than dry food. If you don't feed him, the air will simply build up in his body and make life unpleasant. Lots of food will help push the air out the other end.

-----------------------
You can turn your filter so it's on an angle and that will put the outlet lower down, then you can reduce the water level if you like. However, the more water in the tank, the more the smoke will be diluted, so I wouldn't drop it too much, but you could lower it an inch or two.

If you lower the water level, make sure the heater remains covered with water.

If you have a light on the tank, you could add some more plants. They might help with the smokey water but they might not.

Ok, thank you!

I put the box filter in but it's basically a waterfall lol. Anything I can put there to slow it down?

An air operated box filter should not be creating a waterfall. Did you buy an external power filter?

Maybe that's what I got, haha. I put a sponge in front of it and it's alot better.
He was not bloated tonight and is swimming normal not staying at the top.
Also I haven't been seeing any ammonia as fast as I used to.

There shouldn't be any ammonia in an established tank with a healthy biological filter.
