I was busy cleaning my betta tank, I remove the fish from the tank and placed him in a cup as i was adding a undergravel filter ( the corner filter was taking to much space in the tank.)

Then my wife bump the cup with the betta over, betta flying, wife chasing, ended up with a sad wife and a betta with almost half a tailfin,

Does it ever grow back as it took forever for the fish to grow the fins, as they are very long. As this was my wife bedside lamp, uhm tank.

hi there,

sorry to hear about the incident :( but yes, the tail will grow back wtih proper care, though it's unlikely that you'll see it 100% the same as it was before. The shredded pieces will merge together to form a new tail, and any new bits can seen growing back in a transparent color.

You should raise the temperature to about 80F, keep the water very clean (to prevent finrot), and add some salt + medication into the water. If the betta seems stressed during the first few days of recovery, drape a towel over his tank ot let him feel safe.

It may take up to 2 weeks before you start seeings of recovery, and it'll either be going downhill or uphill from there on (hopueflly uphill). They are tough little guys! so don't give up on him yet  good luck
