My platy is really round and fat, and has a dark brown gravid spot with black dots in it. How close is she to birth?

It sure sounds like it as, the increasing of the gravid spot means pregnancy. Although we couldnt be exactly sure unless you can get a pic.

Yep

Female livebearers that have been kept in a tank with males, will be pregnant. The females can carry 6 sperm packets from breeding with different males and they use the sperm packets to fertilise each batch of eggs. The females give birth about once a month.

She had 13 babies this afternoon still keeping an eye out for anymore babies
