Hey there. New to the forums here. I currently had a neon tetra that looks as though scales are missing or has white on one side. I noticed it recently and am not sure if he got nipped, scraped against something, or has a disease.

Tank info: 20 gallons, top fin power 20 filter, 2 harlequin raspboras, 6 neon tetras, 1 cobra guppy (who loves to nip at other fish).

Parameters: 78F, 30GH, 40KH, 6.5pH, 0 nitrite, 20 nitrate

Think I attached pictures ok...

In the pictures he is the fish with a "break" in the neon stripe. I am really concerned and hope to get help here.

I would say it's your cobra guppy don' look like white spot from what I can see

Looks like an injury. Only time will tell if it can heal w/o remediation. Wounds can sometimes develop fungus. Could be either bumping/scraping into something or an aggressive fish - keep an eye out for further trouble.

Update: came home from work and bowling night tonight. At time of feeding I tried to get a new picture. Kinda looks like a scrape. See new pics.

However... Whats more alarming is that I was missing one neon at roll call, and not the one with making. Found him in my castle upside down with hard time swimming. Moved him to quarantine. Looks great, nice full color, good shape, however "breathing" heavy and not moving otherwise..... Not sure he will survive night

It has gotten worse. Action is needed fast I fear. The fish that moved to quarantine died. The original fish the post was about is still alive but very pale and looks like missing scales.

Tonight I noticed another neon with a white spot near tail! I'm now thinking slime or fungus? Are there any recommendations for meds that are safe? (I ask because tetra ick guard killed all my tank residents once in 1 treatment)

Attached is picture of both.

Update: the one fish has died. Literally appears completely scraped on one side almost to his organs. The second one from previous picture has a scrape mark and has scraped off the white spot.

Tomorrow I plan on a 50% water change. Friday I have both API anti-fungal, and API fin & body arriving. I am assuming I should be going for the antifungal at this point?
