Hey guys!

I just upgraded from a 10g to a 20g. I still have my betta fish from my 10g. But i want to explore and do more then just betta. So i was thinking maybe a Axolotl or pea/ drawf puffers. My tank is planted with a 20g canister filter and two pieces of drift wood. Heres a pic

Aside from anything else, you will have to remove the Betta from this; both suggestions are incompatible with a Betta.

An axolotl would be OK in a 20g alone (so far as I am aware, but I will bow to experts on axolotls). It has specific temperature requirements, and predatory habits, that make fish a no-go.

Puffers are not community fish, and require special water for most species.

Temperatures above 24 °C (75 °F) are very stressful to axolotls, Such temperatures cause metabolism to increase (the rate at which the body "works"), and consequently, an increase in appetite. However, the stress resulting from more than a day or two of exposure to these temperatures will quickly lead to disease and death.

Oh. I dont really want to sell my betta so what would you suggest that would go in with a betta.

I had a Betta many years ago now, and it easily ate neon tetras. I learned.

Betta are not community fish. While some allege this or that works, most often it doesn't and the fish are the losers.

It ate the neon tetras? Wow. A few years ago I had them together and it worked (none ate the other and they weren't stressed).

Individual Bettas do vary, and one might come across a more docile fish. But generally, other colourful fish like neons are not good. And it can go in reverse, the neons may decide to fin nip. It is always safest to assume fish will be "normal" in their behaviours, rather than risking it.

I had a female Plakat that killed Hengali Rasboras.

Simple: no its not a beginner fish but many people thing they can pull it off.
