Does the canopy have any light sockets, or does it lack these as well?
If it does have sockets, you need to get the kind of tube that fits them - if there are T5 sockets you can't use T8 tubes for example.

However if there are no light sockets it is still possible to fit lights over the tank. My tank is custom built and came with brackets attached to the lid to hold fluorescent tubes and an external controller with sockets on the end of the wires that just fastened onto the ends of the tubes. I now have LED tubes fitted the same way - external controllers and the tubes just slot into the brackets on the tank lid.

No light sockets. That's why I'm not sure how o can fit them

I've got my buld hanging on some picture frame wire with a 13 dollar ballast mounted on the back.

I've seen metal clips and waterproof end caps on ebay

I don't know where you live (which country) - I'm in the UK - but this is what the builder of my tank used.

The controller they supplied was the double version of this http://www.arcadia-aquatic.com/ultra-seal-t8-controller/ together with 2 x T8 fluoresecnt tubes. As you can see in that link, the connectors for the tubes are on the ends of the wires. The controller sits outside the tank and the wires pass through a cut out in the back of the lid.

The tubes were attached to the underside of the lid with clips like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Superfish...065415?hash=item28192ce8c7:g:Z10AAOSw7ehXSBk~

They also supplied reflectors which used the same clips as the tubes to hold them in place.

I have since changed to LED tubes which are just a tube with a wire coming out of one end attached to a controller which sits outside the tank. I just used the same clips as the fluorescent tubes used.

If you are in a country other than the UK there will be similar products available.
