Your fish is gorgeous
Sorry to hijack this post, I'm new to fish keeping and the site. The site is fantastic by the way. I have mollies, a sailfin called Jax, 2 black smaller 1 is shadow, larger is sharky, 1 orange balloon molly - Frankie and whiteish colour called Donald (sure Donald is a girl now lol but my son refuses to change the name so Donald th girl she may be!)
Firstly, I 'think' Jax is the only male! I'd like to see if anybody can sex them for me?
They're all acting a little more than crazy since we had 3 new arrivals, I've no clue who mum is, thinking one of the black mollies.
Secondly, frankie is worrying me a little, ALL day today he/she (think she) has been head down sucking the gravel near 1 plant, I dropped a tiny amount of food and she came for it but she went back to the same spot THEN, I went through and she was IN the plant, head down! Again I tried a little food, she moved then went back to the original spot but I noticed she has something trailing from her behind. Wondering if her and Donald are pregnant.
Jax is also chasing Donald and sucking at her bum He chases shadow and sharky away, and sharky chases shadow. Shadow hides behind the water filter! None of it seems to be overly aggressive so not sure what's going on.

I know this is a long post, sorry! Just needed some help. I have pictures to follow. Thanks for any help

your  balloon molly is a female she may be I'll. it's not normal for a moly to act in this way.
balloon molly's  are a deformed fish it was created to get there unnatural shape.

I know about the deformity, I didn't when I bought them. I feel awful for them I'll have to care for them as best I can. I'm just new to all of this. Why can't shops at least be stopped selling them, it would stop future breeding.

I thought the line from her behind may be pregnancy related, do you know? Do you know the sex of the others or possible mum to the fry? Thanks

sadly there is a bigger demand for  balloon moly’s
sharky is a female.shadow may be a male it's difficult to tale in that pic.

I'll just mention a couple things that can have serious consequences for the health of all mollies.  First is the water parameters; these fish must have moderately hard or harder water.  They need the mineral, primarily calcium and magnesium, that makes water hard.  [Salt does not supply this need, just in case someone is thinking salt, and you do not need salt with mollies though they can tolerate it.]  The pH must be basic [above neutral (7.0)] which should match harder water without adjustment.  Warmth is also important for the black variety, in the upper 70'sF.

Another thing is diet.  Mollies are omnivorous, but vegetable matter must be present and substantially.  Include at least one vegetable-type food such as algae or spirulina-base flakes, and you can also feed blanched spinach, shelled peas (squish the pea out from its outer husk or shell after blanching and feed just the inner pulp).

Byron.
