I have planned a little while back to breed giant danios. I have been conditioning them for almost a week with frozen brine shrimp and blood worms. I fed them alot so they are nice and plump. I had the lights on 12 hour shifts. I will intiate it soon with the big waterchange and lower the water temp to about 75. I just have a question for the eggs and spawning mops. I have lots of spawning mops I just bought online, but mine have been in the water for a long time so they absorbed all the water and are heavy now, they just sink at the bottom and cover the bottom like 2.5 inches. Should I take them out, ring them out so they float upwards so when the deposit the eggs they will be running THROUGH the spawn mop? Or is the spawn mop good where it is on the ground, and the eggs will just fall down into the mop? Thanks

Tie some of them onto a piece of wood or something similar and drape them from the top of the tank. I make my own spawning mops from wool.

I wanna try making my own sometime, it's very basic. I think I'll just lower the water level only a couple inches from the top of the spawning mops. That's how I've seen other people do it.

I don't want to mess up initiating it. So I plan on doing  a 70% water change, and change it with cool water back to about 50% level. That will induce spawning?

I also have a sand substrate, IDK if that will help collect eggs as well.

To get mop to float upwards tie a bottle Cork on it . when i spawn the giant danio i keep both sexes separate feed them well on live foods for a few weeks i set up a 3 foot tank with Marbles  water level 4 inches from  bottom of tank is ideal .i put a pair in the tank Late evening they usually spawn next morning.
well conditioned for  spawning

I can't emulate exactly what you do. I will raise the spawn mops though,

with spawn mop you should get a good percentage of eggs.  pmops are good if you have the time to keep checking for eggs.
anyway getting them to spawn is the easy part. keep us up to date on how things go.
4 week old fry
