Good Afternoon Fish Keepers,

I have a question for you.

I have noticed a couple different bugs in my aquarium over the last couple days.

First I seen these white worm types

Not sure if those are Planaria

Secondly, this morning i noticed these little brown bugs. Round in size swimming around.

Here is a video of them:

Any ideas on what to do?

This tank has been operating for about a year and a half now, and my research may suggest over feeding in the last couple weeks.
I tried to split up their feeding doing a little in the morning and a little in the afternoon.

So far they haven't been fed over the last 4 days (today is the forth) and I did a 30% water change this morning.
Also have been treating with Melafix incase there is a bacterial infection.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Looking at the video, the moving critter in the centre seems to be a tiny snail, so no worries there.

The white "worm" if it moves may be planaria, I can't really tell from the photo.  Fish will tend to eat things like this.

Hey Byron, thanks for the input.

The worms do move, creeped me right out, haha
So far my fish haven't eaten them yet, but we will see

As for the brown bug, i'm not sure its a snail.. I actually don't have any snails in my tank for it to come from.. and there are aLOT of them haha

Wish I had a high def camera to zoom in really closely.

Have you added anything to your tank recently?

They almost look like these Seed Bugs

They would randomly swim and crawl around the sand.
Vary in all different sizes as well

The only thing I can think of that has been added in the last couple weeks are these new rocks, which i think have been there for longer than a month and i have them in two other tanks. The white worms and "bugs" have shown up on Monday of this week.

i dont know why that photo is upside down lol

From the second video I agree the brown critter is not a snail, it is sort of swimming/hopping whereas in the first video it appeared to me to be more snail-like.  I will leave it to those with more direct experience to comment on the ID and any issues.

Planaria, if that is what the white worm is, will sometimes appear if there is too much food entering the tank.  As far as I can recall from other older threads, planaria are not parasitic, but again those with more direct experience can comment.

Byron.

Ok, there are more now over the last 6 hours..

They could be a type of amphipod? I had them in my tank for a while until I put a betta in there and he ate them all. What kind of fish do you have? I'm surprised they aren't getting eaten. If I am right they are harmless and actual scavenge uneaten food.

Not sure... maybe check into 'water lice'.

Not sure what they were, but they are gone now!
I took out those Rocks with pore-ish holes. They much have been laying dormant from those.

I took everything out of the tank, and soaked in bleach let it sit in the hot water for a couple days and then put it all back in the tank.

Thankfully they were all gone :)

Thanks for the help!
