i recently picked up some plants at our local dam and want to add them into my tank but the only problem is that the dam is really dirty and i want to know how to rid the plants of any unwanted nasties how would i do it. plant4.jpg

Put them in  a container and treat the water with a parasite med

I was going to suggest a chlorine bleach dip.

Some plants dont appreciate bleach...i never use it for that reason

But each to their own

Well, that's true, but I was thinking of a quick dip, 30 seconds or so.

never had a prob with chlorine dip diluted one part bleach to 19 parts water with a dechlorinated water rinse on my java fern or anubias---I use it to remove bba

I have had issues, so i dont ever do it, nor do i encourage others to do it:)

Java fern and anubias are also quite tough plants....the OP's plant is neither of those

I will be trying some local collected plants shortly myself. and all will be going through a parasitic control quarantine, pretty sure none would appreciate anything bleach.

ok im gona do a strong solution of parasite med in a plastic container
i have a lot of these plants as they reproduce like guppies so im not gonna do a lot of them

i have now treated a few but how long must i leave them in the solution

It should have directions on the bottle, what do they say?

24 - 48 hours should be sufficient
The bottle must have directions for use somewhere....what is the name of the product?

i think it is supposto be left in the water ow and it is wupposto be for big ponds 20 ml of 1000 l
