Sounds like a cool stock, have you got any pictures of the JD? How about a full tank shot?

Rest assured more are on the way they're just going to have to be in the order of the most photogenic. My Jackie Dempsey is my number 1 fish unfortunately she is not a fan of photography. I have about 800 snaps of a sparkly blue blur. In my next tank I have guppies, endler hybrids, albino corydora's, breeding ghost shrimp and a recent Midas rescue. The Midas is the sweetest fish I've ever seen, I doubt he'll stay that way, but for now he thinks he's one of the cories lol

that weird looking rock is a prehistoric manatee fossil

Ha ha midas look so innocent at that size. How big are the two tanks?

They're really odd sizes like a 48 for the juvie midas and a 56 gallon something weird like that for the JD and friends. I have a 90 I just picked up for them that they will be inhabiting in the very near future. 50 bucks on CL plus delivery!  I'm hoping to keep Mr.Midas and Jackie properly socialized in the meantime. I also have three 10 gallons and nursery tanks for my guppy projects, some oddballs like a dwarf puffer and a bumble bee goby and a converted wading pool outside.

Sounds like you've got a nice collection of fish there and what a great deal on that tank!
I have heard though that midas do best alone so it may be worth just keeping you're JD in the 56. You never know though, it may work...

I got some new plants

First off why do you have a MIDAS IN A 48g! They need a 75g. It is not Jackie Dempsey it's Jack Dempsey. How many inches are your convicts. You said in another thread you have problems. You obviously can't provide the needs of the midas. Give the Midas to your LFS and put the jack dempsey in the 48

Hello chili, im not sure what is the problems recently, id just like to say that there isnt any need to be rude to people on this forum, this is a friendly forum built to help other fish keepers care for their fish correctly. I will admit that sometimes im a bit blunt but i never try to insult the OP, so please refrain from these type of comments.

To the OP i apologize but i know nothing of the fish you are caring for. :/

It's really fine I'm not offended easily and reactionary people are full of giggles- YEP Midas get huge and rowdy but he's doing just great where he's at for now- Yeah the Midas was a recent rescue I wasn't planning on him -at all he was half dead and emaciated but I loved him and had to have him- and in my 3rd post I talked about my 90 GALLON TANK he's going in once I get it acclimated.  I appreciate your concern Noobie. Worry more about the cammalanus or pesticides you're going to introduce to your FH's- also My Jackie is a lady JD sorry you didn't get it.

I wasnt saying anything about later I'm talking about now. CichliNoob is just a name! I have been in this hobby for 15 years. I have kept a red devil in a 50 and stunted them, I have stunted trimacs, dovii, umbees. All I will do is suggest that you should give your now healthy rescued midas to your local fish store and move your Dempsey into the midas's tank. Once you get your 90 going here is what I would do with it: your jack Dempsey , a breeding pair of convicts, an Oscar, and a green terror. All are relatively inexpensive and can be found at almost every local fish store. Nice convict btw I used to have a 7 inch male. With your other tank put an oscar in the 56 and a breeding pair of fire mouths in the 48. Hope this helps

I don't want to be enemies just friends.

I rescued him from the local fish store where he was in a 10 gallon with half a dozen larger green terrors and another half dead midevil. If I wanted him to die I suppose I would take him back there.
He's not 3 inches yet and he's in a 48 gallon tank -WHILE MY 90 GALLON ACCLIMATES.
There is absolutely nothing valid in anything you've said here or in any other thread I've read.
Why the hell would I put my JD in with an Oscar and a green Terror?
My tanks are where I want them to be
Keep your judgement to your self- I'm really not interested
I can't Imagine taking advice from a guy with 15 years experience that feeds his FH's lizards out of his backyard.
-yeah I'm good thanks

Alright guys, i think we may need to cool it a bit, but i would agree from some of the fish you mentioned what i do know is oscars, and they cannot go in a 56 gallon for life.

Also i believe a breeding pair of convicts wouldnt co-inhabit a 90 gallon very well with an oscar, from my understanding they will have no problem taking on an oscar and maybe even kill it.

To the OP, if you have the tank going to be ready for all your fish, i would just make sure it doesnt get over stocked in the end.

Your current cichlids are 2 convicts, 1 JD and 1 Midas, correct? You also have three tanks: a 48, a 56 and a 90. That therefore allows you enough room to separate the three species if needed so I fail to see the problems that Cichlidnoob speaks of. The only thing I would recommend is getting a smaller tank to rehome your livebearers into as these are likely to become lunch as your fish mature

Any good photos of the JD yet?

also @ cichlidnood, you claim to have 15 years of experience yet in a previous post you claimed to have only been in the hobby for a year?

Yeah I got 6 now smaller assorted tanks 10,15 and 20 gallons. I also have a half dozen or so small nursery tanks. The guppies left in the tank with him are just the ones I still can't catch. I breed fancy guppies I've been doing that for awhile -I just fell into cichlids recently. Had to trade out probably 200 fish of my older strains so far to make room in the pond and in the house.
I only have 1 male convict in with Jackie for the same reason sawickib suggested in his post. I actually have 6 convicts all together. (not together actually)-the females are in my 500 or so gallon converted pond and are waiting for their new owners to get their tanks all nice and cycled. I got most of the guppies out but most of what's left (probably like 60) actually cohabits well with the female convicts.
Grape Hyacinth and water lettuce helps
