Okay, here's a pic. Notice how the red legs sit on both the green and blue supports. This will help distribute the weight all around the bottom supports instead of just the blue. The cyan members are for torsional support. I did exactly what you're doing by "skinning" the outside. This is exactly like mine and it's solid as a rock. It really doesn't matter how you place the cyan supports, I've got them in two different orientations, but it doesn't really matter. To stay consistent, you might just want to place them horizontally like the middle one. Your call, though.
Attaching your legs is fairly easy. Instead of using a screw long enough to go through 3.5" of wood, and then into your legs from the top, what I did was use a little metal bracket that they use in trusses. It's a thin plate of metal, with slots punched through all over it and it has spikes coming out the back side. Click here to see a crappy picture. You can use these to join your legs with the top and bottom rectangles. I just used one on the outside at each end of the legs. You can find them at any hardware store. They should be in the roofing materials.
They come in any many different sizes and shapes. I just used a square one. Hope this helps.
