Hi everyone, I've got a question that hopefully someone could answer.

Within the last couple days, I've noticed that my RD has been "rubbing" it's belly across one side of the pot(cave) I have in the tank. It does so in a slow controlled manner. Up and down. Back and forth. Doesn't seem to be agitated or anything. Swims around as usual, but then will go back to the same side of the pot and rub some more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

oh then yea, if you have a male and female in the tank ( the female is the one that is doing the egg laying and the male, more showy will fert the eggs. so if you have a pair you'll have breeding going on.
besides that if they look healthy, healthy water, poops, eating, etc etc i wouldn't worry about it :p

Alright then haha no male in the tank. I actually thought she was a he for quite some time now. I guess you can always learn something new. Haven't seen any eggs yet, might in the morning...

I knew some one with a female rd and it would lay eggs once a year.

Well that wouldn't be to bad. Never seen it happen, but hopefully it doesn't make too much of a mess.

Sounds/looks like your female is ready for breeding then :D
Haha well unfortunate for her, no male around. Nor would I want to even try and make that happen. Trying to add the male now? The thought of the carnage that could happen is scary.

Can you enlarge the photo at all? I cant quite see myself. Just to throw a spanner in the works of your RD being a female and she is trying to spawn, my male flier cichlid does the exact same thing, he will fertilize wood rock etc, sometimes he goes so overboard he gets sore bits.
