Male Or Female ?

Hi,
 
Can you please tell me if this is a male or female ?
 
The pet shop sold it to a family member of mine saying it was a female and that she could put it with her other female fighting fish. But this one got it's fins badly attacked and we aren't so sure that it's female.
 
 
The first photo is it's first week with medication to help with the fins and wounds.
The second photo is week two of recovery.
 
So what do you think it's gender is ?

Female spade tail by the looks of things, females can live together in relative harmony if in a large group i.e 6 or more if you have less this is why they may be fighting.

The second photo seems to show an egg spot and the body seems female so I would say it is female.  Are you sure that the other female betta is female?  Even if they are both indeed female that would be enough explanation as to why this particular one got torn up.  Female bettas can live together but only in larger groups so that the aggression is spread out.  It is not recommended that female bettas be kept together in groups of less than 6 for this reason.
