Hi all,
I have the APS 250L extra height tank. Its been running a year. Plants and Fish all healthy, albeit that I had a black beard algae breakout late summer. That could have been over feeding, over stocking, too much light (next to a window) or fertilizer issues (bit of a scattergun approach). Or maybe it was the quality of the lighting. who knows.
Anyway, I am considering replacing the three 39W T5 bulbs that came with the set up. I have two white and one pink/purple. No idea what make they are, but suspect they are also APS. I feel the overall appearance is a little yellow/green and suspect that it might even have something to do with the black beard algae. My plants are all healthy though, so I'm guessing wattage and time on (6hours daily) is sufficient.
I don't wish to change the fittings, just the bulbs. Any suggestions on brands or combos? Ideally, I would like nice crisp daylight that shows the fish up really well and gives the best light for the plants without helping algae.
My plants are low maintenance, mainly anubias, swords, crypts. My fish are tiger barbs, albino tigers, denison barbs, swordtails, cardinal tetras and two firemouths.
