Hey everyone hope everything is going great! :)
Here's what happened I went to the pet store today and asked for 4 female guppies so the women caught them and showed me and I thought the looked fine ( was in a bit of a rush) now that I'm home and they in the tank 3 of the females look a lot like platties not Guppies! Here are some pics I think they'll one is a male as I can see his reproductive thing and I think the other 2 are females but I think the grey one might be a guppies I'm not sure please let me know what you think thanks :) IMG_2013060546578.jpgIMG_2013060539998.jpgIMG_2013060532312.jpg

The 3rd pic is a female mickey mouse platy:) I'm on my phone so piccies are a bit small so I can't see the others so clearly.
Actually the first pic looks like a blonde guppy!

thanks oh daisy I'm not sure the first is a guppy it looks just like a plattie but thanks I will keep the possibility in mind. anyone else opinion :)

They are indeed all platies. The first one has twin bar on her tail. A common trait in platies. The 2nd - look at the flatness of the mouth to me she also looks like a platy but the lack of colour could suggest guppy. Looking at it again, the length of the tail and the shape of it, I am leaning more towards platy.
The 3rd as mentioned above is a mickey mouse platy.

I lean towards guppy for the first two and platy for the third... but I am also thinking the platy doesn't look too well.. a bit on the thin side and it looks clamped... unless it was just afraid during the picture.

I do have some more slender platies, but not quite that slender.

They are definately not guppies.

all of them platys? wow I can't believe they sold me platys instead of guppies :(

will plattys and guppies Breed? I hope not

If you have males and females together they will breed tho I don't know if platies will breed with guppies. I doubt it but I really don't know as they are in the same family of fish. Have heard that guppies can mate with mollies, and platies can mate with swordtails, but that if platies and guppies did succeed in mating they would probably be sterile and/or deformed and not live long.

Platies will not breed with guppies. They aren't the same genus therefore are not compatible.

All platies and no fear of 'crossbreeding'.  Return them if you wish because they were sold to you under false premises.

I think I am just going to keep them as it adds some unplanned variety to my tank :)

I love platies
