Hey i had posted a few things about my new tank which is starting to take shape now, all the bits and bobs i have ordered are starting to arrrive and the tank should hopfully be filled with water next week :) which makes me a very happy man lol.

here is a link to the last thread http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/409132-eheim-wave-75g-new-set-up/

So heres the update of whats going on. The APS filter has arrived and at first glance it is a beast of a filter, the downside is that it doesnt fit in the cupboard of the stand DOHHHHHH! so my options are to have it sit in the middle and place a shelf above it, have it next to the stand or moddify the stand so it fits. Not sure which one i will go with yet.

I have also got the new media set for the eheim 2026 filter and the API master test kit. Still wating on the driftwood, GH & KH test kit and i will buy the background on monday. I also brought an inline ball valve for the RO unit and they send me a saddle clamp which kind of sucks (lets hope they will replace it soon)

Heres a pic of the tank again

It has the scope to be an excellent show stopper.

Looking forward to seeing it progress.

i dont know how much you paid for the media but some guy on AC and ebay who lives in ilford sells eheim efimech for £1 per liter and eheim sub pro for £5 per liter

its not a scam as i just got 50 liters of efimech and 30 liters of sub pro to top up my sump he works in a lab and they buy eheim filters but dont use the media bargain :good:

Thanks, i will try my best to impress, its going to be the first time i have had discus so i am going to take it slow to make sure i get everything right.

Cheers, i only paid like £25 for the lot so not to much higher and aquascaper gave me a great discount code when i brought my filter so saved a bit there.

Well i am now off for a week and a couple more things arrived today. looks like everything is still on track to be filled and have the cycling started this week.
I am still waiting for the GH and KH test kit and if i am not as lazy as today then i will buy the background tomorrow.

heres what i got today.

x2 25l water containers. I will use these to keep the ro/ tap water mix in ready for the water changes.

Well i have had a busy couple of days getting all the small bits done on the tank but i am finally ready to start filling!!

I have put the background on the tank. I went for a plain black one and put it on with the juwel poster fix (made it so much easier.

I have come across a couple of problems as well though. First is the eheim filter that came with the tank does not work
no.gif
it turn on and pumps water but it keeps stopping and starting, i think that it is either the impellor shaft or the impellor itself. I have got another impellor shaft on the way so fingers crossed it is just that and i dont need to fork out another £20 on an impellor as well.

The other is that my GH and KH test kit has not turned up yet so i am going to go with 50/50 ro tap mix and will be praying that when the test kit comes everything will be ok.

The reason i am taking this chance is that i have now placed my order for the fish and they will be arriving at the store in 2 weeks and the manager doesnt want to hold them for too long (space is money he said lol) so i need to start the cycle now so he only has them for a couple of weeks. Worst case scenario is that i have to tank some tank water out and replace it with ro or tap water.

OK so here are some pics of it so far.

Heres is the water filling up and the diftwood soaking. There are still tannins leaking out but i will prob just get some seachem purigen to take them out of the water.

I will buy some ammonia today so i can start cycling the other filter (lucky i brought that one lol)

i have placed my order for the fish as well, i will be going with 7 stendker discus, x1 Brilliant Turquoise, x1 Pigeon blood red, x1 Santarem, x2 Kobalt blue and x2 solid fire red. i will also be getting x15 cardinal tetras as well. After the frist month or two i will be adding x6 german blue rams and maby a l168 butterfly pleco.

I will need to make sure both filters are up and running before i add the GBR and pleco.

I will be adding a couple of plants just java fern and and anubis, i might get some moss as well. But as i will be going bare bottom i at the beginning i wont be able to get anything else yet. This tank i a long term project so i allready have a few thing in mind if everything goes well at the start.

The tank is now full and i am just waiting for the ammonia to get here so i can start cycling the tank.

I filled it up with a 50/50 ro/tap mix and have done the tests on them, i am a bit concerned about the PH and the Nitrate can anyone let me know if the discus and german blue rams would be fine in this.

My results are:
PH = 7.6
Ammonia = 0.25
Nitrites = 0ppm
Nitrates = 40ppm
GH = 10 DKH or 179ppm
KH = 7 DKH or 125.3ppm

accourding to the ##150### and the Stendker website the KH and GH should be fine for both but just a little bit worried that the nitrates will be really high once there are fish in. what do you guys think?

OK so here it is, the tank is filled, and i have added a few plants. i got some floating plants as well as these should ebe great at getting the nitrates down.

I have also been doing a bit of research into the high nitrates, it looks like the tap has about 50ppm but the ro filter is not getting rid of them so i think i might need a booster pump. the output of the filter is not that great so i dont think the pressure is enough.
