We went out and bought a 200ltr aquarium from Maidenhead Aquatics.
Beautiful oak cabinet and hood.
Plus, we might start setting it up tomorrow.
As you can probably tell from 90% of my posts I've been doing my research so I don't go and mess it up. :good:
I know all about cycling and have decided to do a fish-OUT cycle, mainly 'cuz I don't agree with intentionally hurting animals.
If anyone has any tips AT ALL, post them here because the only experience I've had is with a 28ltr that kinda failed massively.
But that's another story...

And finally if you want to you can post a sorry message because my favorite fish, a Corydoras Adolfoi, called John died today
R.I.P John
I know it's just a fish but he survived EVERYTHING, new tank syndrome, cycling-itus and even the dreaded overstocking phase.
End of an era and the start of a new one.

good luck with the new tank. be sure to keep us posted with your progress :good:

and sorry to hear about your cory

Also :rip: John. Never nice to see a hardy stalwart and friend pass on to the next world.

Great to see that you will be doing the fish LESS cycle.
We learnt the hard way about cycling and I wish we had seen this forum long before we had considered keeping fish - so much to listening to LFS advice. I think that Lynda would have been put off for life about keeping fish.

But there you go, we have 18 of them and they are thriving - thankfully with yours truly doing the water changing and other maintenance.

Congratulations on getting the 200 litre tank - wish we had the space for one.
What are the dimensions of the tank? Or better still, do you have a link to MA's site that shows this tank so that we can all see it and its specs?
Does it come with its own filter? If so, is that internal or external? A lot of people on here advocate using a decent sized external and as you have a cabinet as well, you could probably hide an external in there. BUT DO CHECK THE DIMENSIONS of the external so that it fits underneath. I have just bought an external and the absence of an internal does release a fair volume of water. We had an Eheim 2213 and removing it has left a gaping hole on the right hand side of the tank. The fish are bewildered by this!!!

Do give some consideration to using sand as a substrate - any bottom feeders you may wish to get will thank you for it. It is, apparently, far easier to clean. I will be changing ours from gravel to sand as I wish to add 6 pygmy corydoras to our tank. That will be about September time once the tank has matured enough and that, as far as I am concerned will fully stock the tank.

So, good luck with the tank and do post piccies of it and keep us updated on your progress.

My regards

David

The tank is around 100cm L x 50cm H x 40cm D.
I'll try and post pics.
Thanks for the condolences. :good: It's a shame

Wow - congratulations on the new tank!! I hope everything goes well for you. What fish do you have at the moment and are you planning to move them after the cycling has been done? :hyper:

At this point I only have 2 Ember Tetras from my old tank, and no I wasn't going to move them over.

Yay got some pics :hyper:

Homebase, household cleaning products section, "Homebase Value" range, in a white tub with orange labels.

My missus wants one of that range as well, just saving the pennies.

I found this stuff on eBay called 'Kleen Off' it says it's fine just wanted to check. Suitable?

p.s It says it's 95% ammonia  Does it mean 9.5%?

Very nice.

I'm after the 330l or hopefully the 420L if I can fit it in. Just need a way to get it past the better half first? :dunno:
