I got Balthazar a few days ago and he has a chunk of his tail missing. How long will it take to heal?

is your tank new or not?

cause i see the picture on the right, your fish looks like it's suffering from ammonia poisoning. its gills are red
 
That's just the color of his gill cover. Other than the few tatters he has on the bottom fin and his tail, he is perfectly healthy. He is eating good and flares at his reflection. Here are a feew more pictures
