Hi everyone, i started this account because i need some help with my tank, I'm not a breeder by choice more like by chance. I have 2 clown plecos and 1 whitetip pleco, and somewhere along the line it the whitetip pulled out the mac-daddy moves on one of the clown plecos and now i have a tank full(at least 13 different sized)crossed breed plecos. I went to a big al's near my house and the manager's mouth dropped when i told him about my plecos (party time and off-spring) and even more so when i told him it was a mix of the whitetip and clown plecos). So here i am, has anyone ever heard of this, and if so how rare is it? One more thing if i may, how big do they have to be for me to start finding these bad boys a new home my tank can't handle so many of these hippies. Thanks in advance

Hi, lloyd i will try and get some pics but they hide out in the caves i have. It's rare to see them out in the open during the day. I'll keep an eye out at night. :) thanks for your reply.

Hi, you could try putting them on Kijiji, I did this with my guppies and they went pretty last time we went in all there fish had ich. Calgary store, how big do you think they will get? The smaller Plecs are often easier to re home.

Hi scales9, i thought about putting them on kijiji, as far as how big they will get, i have no clue but i can guestimate that they will not be much bigger than their parents(about 4 inches long) it's going to be interesting as they grow because some have white tipped fins like they white tip bodies like the clown plecos and some have the body of the clown plecos but have the colour of the whitetip.

They sound really cute you shouldn't have a problem re homing them on kijiji! Where in Canada are you?

Without more detailed info I am not sure you have any of the fish correctly identified. While I know that plecos of the same genus can interbreed, I have not heard nor read of plecos from different genus doing so. From your description the clown plecos would be Panaques and the white tip sounds like it is an Ancistrus.

So one of two possibilities occurs to me. You have the fish identified incorrectly or, if not, you are mistaken about who the two parents are.

If you do indeed have different species of the same genus interbreeding, you need to be sure when selling/trading/giving them away that you clearly state that the fish are hybrids.

Clown's cant cross with bristlenose or BN (or white tip as your calling them)

you must have two BN as the 3 fish you show are all 100% BN pleco's, incact one look's like it's a long fin

Google Images

Also you can feed them courgette they love it!

Hi understand that it may seem unlikely to you that these may be interbreeding, but there are 3 plecos in my tank besides the baby plecos, 1 white-tip pleco, that's what the guy at the pet shop called them(as you said bristlenose pleco)but it does not have any bristles on it, i once had a bristlenose but it looked nothing like the white-tip. The white-tip i have has very long fins about half his length is fin(tail, dorsal and side fins are long with white tips at the eand of all the fins. it's a dark grey with white spots on it's body) The other 2 are clown plecos(Panaque maccus)again as per the guy at the pet shop called them and i searched for the technical name. The clown plecos i have are very similar to the photo i have uploaded the only difference is that the 2 clown plecos that are in my tank have squared stubby tail fins. I just took a pic of the whitetip you'll see he has no bristles on his nose, and his very long fins. I ask that you take a look at the pic again and see that the baby pleco at the bottom right has the white tips on it's fins and his fins are pointed just like the whitetip i was telling you about and the baby is greyish, now the baby on the top right has a squared tail fin and has no white on the fins. The squared fins are just like the grown clown plecos the difference being that the adult clown plecos fins are short and stubby looking while this babies fins are longer like the adult white-tip, and it's colour is alot closer to the white-tip then the clown plecos colour. Please let me know what you think after see and reading what i have added
thanks.

i have 3 plecos 2 clown(Panaque Maccus and 1 white-tip that's all i have now unless the white-tip is a-sexual there's no other way these babies could appear.

Let me help you out a bit Tripp80. Plecos are not livebearers. Maybe you would do better with this question in the right section. I am about to move it for you.

As said above, a Panaque cannot breed with an ancistrus, its like trying to get a cat to breed with a dog.
And as another poster said, the young plecs in the photo are 100% ancistrus, very curious

Yep, the pictured fish are common Ancistrus.

Something is amiss with the ID of the parents

I will wait and see what happens as they grow... i admit from reading what all of you had said, i will post a pic further on down their development and please let me know what you think.

how long have you had the Bristlenose plec ? can fish store eggs ?
