My 10 gallon tank used to have black river rock and a lot of plants. I decided that the dark background and dark substrate was just too dark. I changed out the gravel the other night, added a little terra cotta pot and took out a couple of the plants.
I like it much better and I'm sure my little neons are glad I'm not terrorizing them every night trying to get things set just right!
