Well, I've always had discus with their huge tanks but I also love to make aquascapes, but discus can't go in small tanks, lol. So, one day while getting supplies for my discus, I saw a beautiful betta acting frantic in the small amount of water it was given. Well, it went home with me and so began the love of Bettas. They are perfect for my 7.5 gallon tanks that I make aquascapes in and they are so intelligent.
Okay so here we go:

This is a crowntail that I rescued. He had no colour and wouldn't eat, well look at him now. He just went to his permanent home to live in a 55 gallon tank with an apple snail, tons of tetras and a pleco. The new owner says he is in heaven and loves blood worms.

Then there is this beauty who is a rescue and just got a home. He is still with me until she has her tank ready. (all my betta's must go to homes with heaters, filters and over 5 gallons)

This dragonscale lives in my 70 gallon, he needs a home.

My two favorites that I will never part with a dragonscale (my first that was frantic) and this spade tail. Nothing special looking about the pink guy except his personality is amazing.

This blue boy lives in with discus and amano shrimp they are his buddies. They all eat together and he loves his huge tank. (Also he will stay with me and his friends).

I decided that i would buy 2 Bettas from Thailand (bettaakapes). I wanted to pick what i have been wanting (HMPT) instead of rescues that required lots of work to get them healthy. They will arrive in the next couple weeks.

Wow is that it, lol. Well not really, I have another at work in a 55 gallon that the angelfish have adopted, it is so cute.

Thanks for viewing my crazy betta journal :)

Love the lot of them!

I've always been fascinated by Bettas but never got in to them because I only have my 125L community tank. The female you've ordered looks a beaut by the way! :hyper:

Thanks :) I love them all. Never thought i would get into Betta's, I started with a 35 gallon community tank like yours now, still have it along with 2 Discus tanks and a shrimp tank, plus the betta tanks. I am so excited to get my female betta, she does look nice, doesn't she?! They are arriving on April24th. God, i hate waiting. But nothing like you waiting for the cycling. I was lucky and had someone give me their filter sponge and cycling was done in a day. I read your journal, and your tank looks great, wait until your plants take hold. My tanks looked barren at first, then once the plants grew, wow I spend my days trimming them. Too bad you weren't closer I would send you my clippings, lol. Keep up the pics on your journal, its always fascinating to watch the progress.

Cheers

Yeahh, ermm... since then I kinda got fed up of doing water changes and what not and didn't do anything with my tank. I stopped adding ferts and what not too... so as you can guess, my plants died and it ended up in quite a state.

My java fern and java moss is thriving though, really taking over my tank but unfortunately they're the only plants I have left. Bit of a waste of £54 really. Never mind though, I've pulled my finger out and got some motivation back by starting to clean it all up. I'll upload a photo later of what it currently looks like.

By the way, what did you stock in your 35 gallong?

Oh that is too bad.I didn't check the date of your journal, lol. Plants are expensive. I can't imagine how much I have spent and wasted learning about plants. My most amazing plant that grows like crazy in all my tanks is Vallisneria. It even grows well in my tank that has no CO2.
My tanks have switched about a little bit as I got some baby discus and needed to put them in a smaller tank until they grow, so they are in the 35 gallon right now with amano shrimp, a male veil tail betta, but the discus will go to 70 gallon later. Community fish are in my 55 gallon (which is at my work) with angelfish, mollys, a male betta, pristella tetras, snails, S.A.E and a zebra pleco. They all get along perfectly.
I started with just Mollys though oh and corys. Corys now live in my 70 gallon with another Zebra pleco, 2 pearl gouramis (these were my first fish) and the discus and a male betta. Oh and German blue rams, if you get a chance, these guys are amazing. Water has to be always perfect though. Same as for the discus. I have to change water every other day, lol.
Amano shrimp are unbelievable cleaners for a planted tank. If you need plants looked after, these guys are the best. And I don't use fertilizers, hmm not sure how really, don't want to mess up when everything is going good.
Anyway, it is so worth the effort. Once it gets going you will love it. Can't wait for pics

Very nice. By the way, as promised here's a shot of my tank as it is now...

Really ugly but as I said, I'm in the process of cleaning it up. It's looking quite empty too, apart from when it comes to java fern!

Hey Josh, It looks great, what are you talking about it's ugly, lol. I love the wave in the sand, makes it look natural and the java seems to be doing well. The set up of the scape is nicely done:)I think it will look fantastic with some more growth and of course when there are beautiful fish, maybe a Betta, hehe. Here they breed some nice ones out your way.

Hey Hannahbear, thanks, can't wait for them to arrive. I see on your signature u have some Betta's too. Any pics? What are they? Aww and it's nice they are in big tanks.
I just did an aquascape this weekend for one of the betta's arriving, its a beautiful hilly ravine with fallen logs over a pebbled river. I think coming from Thailand having lived a glass box, he won't know what has happened. For the other one I'm doing a little hobbit aquascape from Lord of the RIngs. Should be interesting. The Betta's so love the plants, I'm finding. :)

Show pics if you can

The waves are from my bristlenosed plec, he's always stirring the sand up  Going to the garden centre later today so we will have to see what I come back with :shifty:

Yeahh ahahh. Hmmm, just looking on plantedtanks.co.uk and thinking about buying some jungle vallis and some myriophyllum scabratun for the back. Oh, and some EasyCarbo. I need to check the parameters of my tank before I set out to the garden centre too, just to make sure everything is perfect :fun:

Sounds great :) love to c pics once u get going, don't forget.

Will do, you may have seen some posts about my experience at the garden centre yesterday - didn't really go well

lol, that is an experience :) I thought Garden center was a plant and furniture place like it is here. I wasn't expecting you to be getting fish there. Well, at least she got the cardinals right. I guess that is why we have to constantly keep our eye on what they are catching for us.
I had a similar experience. The guy didn't speak english, (an asian aquascaping place) and I pointed to the chocolate shrimp and asked him "5 for 35.00?" (a sign below tank said this)he nodded, I said okay I'll have 5 of them. Welllllll, he gave them to me and i went to the cash and the guy said 70.00. I was like omg, what? The guy said 35.00. He was like no these are chocolate and are 70.00 for 5. I love the store, so didn't argue and bought them. :(
Really hoping they breed lol.
