Hi All,

Finally got some time yesterday to set my new tank up and I have a few questions :rolleyes: !

Part 1

The water seems a little cloudy and I was wondering if this is down only setting it up yesterday or something I've done wrong? I also have what looks like layers of something dusty on the inside of the glass ( I washed the gravel out until the water was running through it clean and soaked the bog-wood for a week changing the water daily and gave the stones a good clean with boiling water etc). I've posted a couple of pics (please excuse the background as it has developed some air pockets since adding water so it will be re-done shortly!).

Give it a few days and the water should clear once the tank settles.

Yeah, as said above its probably either a bacterial bloom, OR its just the dust that gets trapped between gravel being cleaned, letting off residue.

I wouldn't worry, what i find aswel though, if is you have a filter that has carbon in, replace the carbon with filter wool as filterwool is finer and will get the small bits that wouldn't be picked up in carbon.

And a little tip to keep the picture backing on is to use something like this;

Sea View

It keeps the backing from coming away from the glass and makes the picture a lot clearer, I use it on my picture backing.
The picture will still come away from the glass now and again but a quick run over with a flat object (piece of card or cash card works for me) and its back looking good again.

People have said that Vaseline works as well but I am yet to try it :good:

The background is currently fixed with vaseline as I had some at home and thought I would safe a fiver as I's seen the Sea View product, but I may go and buy some this week. I bought the backing from a LFS, it was a double sided type but when I put it on the other side was visible so I put some black card on the back to stop it showing through. The problem is now I have to pull the black card all off to try and force the air out of the background!!!

I should have bought a single sided background and some sea view and saved some time (and money as I now I've got to but anther background!!!!).
