I have two mature angelfish in my 48-gallon aquarium. I feed them once or twice a day. Flake food; once a week frozen bloodworms. One angelfish is very fat. I have skipped feeding two days in a row this past weekend, thinking he is getting too much to eat, but I don't want to deprive the rest of the fish. The fat one is about twice as wide as the other one. They are always hungry!

Any suggestions? Is this dangerous, or is he just a fat fish?

Thanks

Not the best pictures. It is very difficult to get a good photo in my tank because of the mirrored back. Having trouble attaching photos. I have to keep making them smaller to attach. Not sure if you can see. The darker one on the right is the fat one...

Here is another photo. If I upload one at a time I can make them bigger. Still hard to see the fatness.

Another photo..

The silver one is normal looking. The darker one is about twice as fat and looks overfed to me.

He is about half an inch thick. Just doesn't look right to me. Lots of bulges in the stomach area. Especially compared to the other one.

could she be pregnant if female and what are you feeding them,

for mine with flakes there fine but as soon as i put blood worms any where near my tank OMG they go berserk and eat the lot then they have a belly on them, may just be a full belly from feeding?

I only feed bloodworms once a week and haven't fed them that for a few weeks because I thought he/she was overeating. I thought maybe could be pregnant. I don't know the sexes of either. It is a pig when it is feeding time! Acts like it hasn't eaten in weeks. The one with more silver is definitely thinner and doesn't eat as much at feeding time.

They are two beautiful angels. I've had them over a year and a half and would hate to lose them. How long do angels live for?

i don't know how long angels live for but i feed mine daily blood worms :D haha, didn't know fish could get fat tbh, I'm sure they will be fine could it be just the breed of fish i have 2 marble and 2 silvery orangey ones :) and my marble ones are wider than my silver ones i guessed it was just naturally like that :)

you fish do look nice :) angels are truly amazing fish to look at

angelfish live between 5-15 years or something like that. as for its size i would guess that its a female with lots of eggs. my female angelfish also looks fat compared to the male except for when after theyve spawned. so at a guess id say the fat one is female and the other a male

Thanks! I guess we shall see, then.

I have had breeding pairs in the past. Don't remember the female getting so fat. I would prefer the same sexes because it is always a shame when the babies are eventually eaten by the other fish. I'm not set up for breeding. And the parents chase all the other fish to one side of the tank.

I'll let you know what happens.

Mark
