So heres my 1st attempt at some aquascaping its very much a work in progress i got 2 pieces of mopani wood and created a root like focal point. I have added a java fern to grown on this and will probably add moss to the main branch

Theres no background i've just plonked the wood in and will build up plants add rock etc
but just looking for any advice/opinions cause the more i look at it the weirder it all looks

I'm liking what you've done so far.
Some small foreground plants would look good & something to hide the equipment

yeah im hoping to buils some plants up at back and add bckgrnd thanks for the input

I like the look of it, you've done well choosing plants too, nothing that the fish will snack on. While you build up just add a bunch more tall plants to the back of the tank and possibly somewhere secluded for your shark, they get territorial and like having somewhere to call 'theirs'. Brilliant job though :good:

I'm a big fan of the 3D background you can get for tanks here's an example

However you could easily put a few tall plants towards the back of the aquarium to get a more natural environment effect, other than that looks good.

Thanks for the input - i've had no one say what the hell have u done which is good - i used to be quiet decisive now i ponder for ages - the mopani wood creates a nice little system of caves for my shark i always have to create a den for him ranging from a castgle to the barrel and now the mopani - you can actually see him in the 1st pic disapearing into it the minute i put it in lol

Yeah i really like the 3d backgrounds though some seem to need siliconing into a dry tank and i dont want to drain again so i'll either build plants and add a black or blue or if i see a 3d one cheap enough that u can put in a wet tank i'd be tempted.

What plants would be best to build up the back - i'm looking for ease of care ie no co2 needed etc which is why at the min there all javafern on bogwood

looks good mate. i sprayed the back of my tank blue and stuck in some wood and plants which are starting to grow now i got a jbl co2 system. here is mine so far

The tank looks great as is but I would add a background, I'm partial to blue but black would look just as good. You could try some Wisteria plants to the middle & back. They don't require much but some trimming when they reach the top of the water. Don't put any near the filter outlet or they "blow" over.............

Thats a really nice setup and love the tank in wall - maybe one day when i'm settled in a permanent house, i know you've sprayed the bank of the tank ....but you thought of a black background i think it would look so much more vivid and powerful as per pic below (i was bored in work)

Honestly i really think that would give it that extra wow factor (as if embedded in the wall wasn't enough.lol)- teamed with the dark substrate really brings out the fish colours
