So okay, i know its pretty bad to do it, but i went to pets at home and saw some bristlenoses, and thought, i would just get them.

BUUUUT im thinking i've been sold the wrong ones, i can't get a good picture of them just now, but as soon as i do i will post it, but they are rather big with no bristles and i did specify females when i bought them but they were the 2 biggest ones in the tank so im thinking they were in the wrong tank...

I've done a bit of research and i think they might be Salfins/Gribbceps, but im not sure. its annoying me, but if they aren't bristlenoses i will need to rehome or take them back as they just won't fit in my tank when they get bigger..

Any help is appreciated

Katie

You will need to get some pics on really. All I will say that in the 5 P@H in my area, I have never seen Bristlenoses in any of them. They always seem to have Sailfins and Commons.

If you asked for bristlenoses and they arent or they didnt correctly identify the species i would pack them up into a bag and take them right back and ask for a refund. Dont wait until you are attatched to them and they make the rest of your fish suffer....

Females do have smaller and less bristles- but they do have them so they should be easy to spot.
How large are they as male bristle-nose plecs will only grow to 6inch females around 5inch. I have seen lables for bristles-noses at my P@H and are yet to see one there :/

Should get some pics up soon, we'll help u out :)

I went to pets at home and saw many bristlenose there. Can you see any kind of marks on them. Say for example where the bristles should be. And pets at home wont even take them back i dont think.

My P@H had both in tanks next to each other, ah well if they arent i will be taking them back, here are some pics to help identify them.

sorry i know they aren't great pictures...

Doesn't look like a BN to me, if I were you I would take it back and get a school of smaller species of cories, or a small school of kuhli loaches

Thanks, i will take them back and maybe get them swapped, it wouldnt be fair to keep them as they will get faaar to big for my tank.

Thanks for the help

i phoned them and said they had given me the wrong ones, and they agreed to change them, i got there and the guy was looking at them saying he knew for sure they were bristlenoses, i was like Hmm well i looked on the net and it looks more like the Gibbiceps (in the tank next to the bristles) so he said okay, well they are defo bristles and you can see the bristles, (but no i couldnt...) but he said he would change them anyway. he picked out another huge one that looked identical to the one i gave him back! Grr so i said no could i get 2 of the really small ones, so he gave me to smaller ones which are too small to tell just now (even though he said you could see the bristles again!) but they do definately look more like BNs now! Thank god! haha

Anyway i have learned my lesson, p@h is a no no when it comes to fish. they were helpful enough but i don't think the guy (a manager) knew what he was on about.
if they turn out not to be BNs i will just rehome them or try and get a diff FS to take them.

Thanks for all your help though

Katie

Glad you got them swapped and I hope that the new ones turn out to be the right ones. On another note, don't discount P@H. Yes the people may be a little clueless in some cases, but this can often work in your favour. I picked up since nice hill stream loaches from there last week which were quite cheap because they did not realise what species they were.
