Feet! Although a 6x2x2 metre tank would be awesome! :hyper:

Thanks. One of my students has a tank 8 x 8x 2 meters, and he only has 16 angels in it. (I asked him too, the answer was no because it is a family tank).
That was a stupid question anyway.

If i only have the angel and give away the loaches, what size tank can i get then?

Hmm... then the Rio 300 that Tizer suggested could be good. They're 4 foot long, about 16 inches deep and about 20 high - that might do... wouldn't be spot on but would definitely be a huge improvement on their current circumstances.

quick question, just for my understanding (and sorry for dragging up the tragic accident), but who informed you that your friend still had the fish in his posession after the accident? Was it the Brazilian authorities? How did they know to contact you? Were you his next of kin? Incredible story.

The police contacted me, because in his wallet he kept a little card saying "If found drunk, passed out, or in danger, contact this number..." and it had my number on it. They called me and asked who i was etc, gave them his families number. They said they didn't want his belongings, and I called back about the fish.
The police informed me, they didn't find a container with a fish in it. I was sad, but couple days later I got a call that they found the fish - alive - in his flask. So I got someone to pick it up and ship it to me.

I hope you understand, this fish means a lot to me.

I can't afford a new tank, maybe a used. I found a 150L & rio 125 tank online. Is that enough for them, or should I keep looking? And if yes, what size? 300L?

For the angelfish, look for a tank that is around 2 feet tall, and 3 or so feed long. That's as big as you'll need it for the angel. However, you'll need something much larger for the loaches. Imo, since you're on a tight budget, rehome the loaches, and just get a tall tank of sorts. Even a standard 37 gallon tank (30"L, 12"W, 24"H) would be fine.

Well, probably because a wild caught, young angelfish, mind you, something that people have troubles keeping alive even when they provide a adequate tank and proper company, according to you, managed to not only live inside of a vial somewhere in the south america for a good while, still alive, despite the fact it would likely be suffering from ammonia issues -and- high stress from being separated from a shoal to be put in a cup somewhere, but then managed to live through a major shipment to another country, to be introduced to different water chemistry, in a tank only a foot tall, which may have not even been cycled yet. AND THEN, be able to live and grow to a point where it is unable to swim up and down, and still be able to live with it.

To be honest, I'm highly skeptical of it myself. I'd have to see it to believe it. But I'm not here to leave insults on the story, just here to help with the situation.

8 x 8 x 2 metre tank = 28,000+ imp gallons... where does your student live? in the local swimming baths
The footprint of my house is only 8x7 metres. the ground floor ceiling height is 2.3 metres. just to put some perspective to this tank.
16 angels in there.... 1750 gallons per fish... why bother you'd never see them...
Why pay in $ and not £ or the Brazilian Real. As I said!!!!

didn't even notice that one...

Ok, that was a little lie, to cover a really stupid question. Sorry.

The fish are true, here is two pictures (taken with webcam) of them :

Not to mention all the complicated customs stuff you'd have to go to to transport a live, wild fish to another country, but hey, maybe that's why it cost so much.

I don't like the idea of wild caught fish myself. I dont mind fish which have been bred in captivity as this is the only life they've known, but it feels cruel to take a fish from the wild and put it in a tank for our own amusement. I was quite disappointed when I found that bamboo shrimp don't breed in captivity and the one I have would have certainly been in the wild at some point.

Yes, so what are you trying to say? That I am cruel for putting a caught wild fish that means a lot to me in a tank? It was BARELY OVER 2 INCHES !!

I might be wrong here, since I don't know a lot about wild angelfish, but honestly and sincerely, that fish looks as domesticated as can be. It looks like a domesticated calico strain or sorts, and the only wild angelfishes I know of look similar to this
