Some african rift lake cichlid but im not sure what type. I have a feeling its a tanganykan but im rerally not sure

Looks like a colour morph of one of the Malawi cichlids to me; perhaps Labeotropheus fuelleborni?

I hope someone rescues that poor dwarf gourami ASAP :( They are in no way, shape or form compatible.

thanks for the help guys i was thinking that too when i looked for it on the net but once i looked cichlids i decided against it because not only is it the most peaceful fish i have ever had i actualy had 2 at the start and one of the gourami killed one just thinking if it was a cichlid it wouldve went on a killing spree in my tank by now ive had it about a year now and its never annoyed any one of my other fish even leaves the tetras alone :)

It is a Cichlid, that's for sure. I'm just not certain what Type of cichlid it is... Does look like a colour morph of Labeotropheus fuelleborni though as has already been suggested.

thanks very much guys just as well i posted on here i was thinking about getting more but i take it ive been lucky and got a very peaceful one lol dont think i wouldve been so lucky next time but as i said thanks :)

It's an O.B. morph peacock cichlid from lake Malawi. Aulonocara sp. tend to be very peaceful with fish of other species. The biggest problem is water conditions, Africas great lakes are very hard and alkaline, where most of our other tropical come from neutral to acidic and soft to mildly hard waters.

Just because you've been lucky up until now, that's no guarantee that it's going to continue that way

Anyway, it's not merely a question of aggression; dwarf gouramis and African cichlids have totally differing tank requirements; the gourami needs soft, acidic water with plenty of plants, while the cichlid needs very hard, alkaline water with no plants and lots of rock work.

Trying to keep both in the same tank means that neither will be truly happy or comfortable.

+1. IMO it is a case of rehome the Aulonacara or rehome the other fish you have...
