The people at my pet store are completely useless, and unreliable. When I purchased goldfish and a tank on the same day, they didnt inform me about the tank cycling.. I don't trust it.
Does any out there know what kind of tail my betta Tony has?

Im gonna say crown but tbh his tail dsnt look in the best condition

Can u get a picture of him flareing ?
Put a mirror next to his tank that should do it :)

But for the most part, it has looked tattered since the day I bought him a year ago on january 8th

Also, I know, they are looking sad lately, his tank mates (Platties, and 1 molly) don't nip that I have ever seen, and a while back he scratched his body and lost quite a few scales but I treated him with some mellafix for a while and they came right back and he is percky again, I also can't quite tell if he has fin rot or anything, maybe the tail is torn
Would mellafix be okay to treat it with?
Also I only have the one tank and it has 4 other residents too, would it be okay to treat with them in it?
Our closest pet shop is over an hour away by car :( Makes care difficult sometimes
I will also try to get him to flare!

Hhhhmmmm its proberly just him then but hes deff a crown tail what did they sell him to u as??

Yeah they didnt even TELL me what kind he was when I bought him.. Not the greatest personnel to have working at a petstore hey? :(

Tbh i dont know about that med i dont use it
Platies can be a little nippy in my exp so keep an eye out as for the downness have u tried feeding him a varity of foods fresh frozen etc my betta lives a sort of natural diet bloodworm every other day peas and a little flake

Mine normaly dsnt eat flake but i have to congo tetras in there who do so i have to add it :) )

I only have flake food and live bearer food, I dont feed the live bearer food much because it bloats Tony's stomache, I'll try varrying his diet giving him some peas, any other household things to add? Can't get to the petstore for another month or so probably :(

Well peas really i wouldnt suggest other thing tbh and i never feed my livebearers specific food they get allround tropical food my girl platy is nearly 6yrs! Thats old for a platy :)

I'm still stumped about his poor fins! I dont see any black anywhere on his body (Though it is hard to distunguish as he is pretty much dark purple) If they were torn from plastic plants or nipping from the platties, though I havent seen them nip, will they regrow again?

Can i be honest i dont think its an illness by the looks of him

How do i put this nicely he may not be the best quality please dont take my word for it
But ive had 2 crowns and even my one who had his fins ripped off his "spines" are seperated still like normal
But he could be unhappy what are ur water readings?

I've heard that melafix isn't the best for bettas, I bought this stuff called Bettafix and it seems to be working just fine and he really perks up when I add it, smells great too, kind of like a minty smell.

I've used Melafix in the past to help with scale regrowth and it seemed to work fine, but I've heard the same thing. I wonder if anyone has any hands on expirience that it doesnt work?

Also, yeah I was thinking that he may not be the best quality, that's okay though, I just love him and his little personality ticks :) I couldn't care less what quality he is, and I love hs colors.

the water readings 7.5 for PH, the water where I live reads that everywhere and I'm not quite sure how to lower it, I do have some easy balance that I put in every water change.
and the ammonia is about 0 ppm right now as I just did a water change yesterday and have a few live plants.

ok just keep an eye on the water nitites and ammonia are they killers

and i bluming agree with it dsnt matter what quality they are :)

Getting some more live plants today from a friends aquarium, pest free! So that should help keep the levels better as well if there are any spikes, thanks though! I'll try to monitor it for a couple weeks to see
