hello everybody ,

my name is yonatan and i am from israel ,

i am not an english speaker so you will have to forgive me if my english is'nt perfect ..

so to the point -

i wanted to share my brackish tank !

i already know what you're thinking .. acording to the topic they're african but mine are not the atlantic tipe .

they are a bit rare and i have'nt seen any photos of them in captivity on the network .

my mudskippers are a dwarf kind and they came from kenya .

i keep 10 of them in 1 meter across tank with 2 hermit crabs and 6 living and growing mangroves .

they are not agressive at all ,not to each other and neither to the hermit crabs .

so here are some pictures :

hope you enjoyed it ,if there would be good comments i'll upload some more :good:

good night :zz

I like it a lot! It was a great idea to put hermit crabs in there too. Very original. I also liked the fact that you have live mangroves in there. Not many people do that.

PS: You English is very good for a non-native English speaker :)

thank tou very much , :good:

5 more good comments like that and i will take some more pictures and i'll upload them !

I love them as well, always been fascinated by these creatures

Do they move much?

in the past i raised mudskippers from the atlantic ,singapore and australia .

this is'nt the first time i raised this species ,

i only brought them a couple of days ago , they are very shy at the beginning .

but from my experience with them i am sure they will show themselves more .

more comments

They look really happy and cool!!

Very impressive!! I had wondered how 1 would keep these in a tank. I live near an estuary so these (they look exactly like yours actually) mad things are everywhere. You walk along the banks and swarms of them dive out of your way and into the water.
They spend alot of time playing about in the mangrove branches, which is kinda odd for a fish.
My daughter is always catching them and wanting to put them in my marine tank. I explained to her the diff between reef and estuary environments and why they'd be unhappy in my reef tank.
My ex and I used to live on a yacht (cheap housing costs) with our cat and dog. The cat, Puss, was a hunter through and through and used to catch mudskippers and toadfish - his contribution to the larder, I think. Once I found our little dog staring at a dusty corner in the cabin. Closer investigation revealed a dusty, fluffy and fairly indignant mudskipper sitting there. Washed him off and let him go - swam off a bit wobbily and with a greater appreciation for cats but seemed ok.
magamimudskipper - how did you aquire Australian mudskippers? Just curious :)

thank you very much !

the mangroves grow very slowly ,but i belive that in one year from now they will start to look like an actual tree .

i got the australian kind from a store in tel aviv ,first time i hvae seen them .

and where do you live ? becauase i know that my kind is very common in south africa .

great to see a set-up that's a little different. I agree about the crabs.....great addition! Are they no threat to the fish?

Devlish Angelfish would have been curious about how you got Australian mudskippers because all of Australia's flora and fauna is highly protected and not usually allowed out of the country (not with out a lot of red tape being involved anyway). Unless you had an Australasian species of mudskipper that could be found in both Australian and close Asian Islands. Great to see the effort you have gone to in making thier muddy home and the crabs are a nice touch too.

I live in Australia, Magami. Baccus is correct - I was wondering how Australian mudskippers ended up in Tel Aviv because as Baccus points out, import/export laws and quarantine rules here are EXTREMELY strict and all native species are very carefully protected. Perhaps the mudskippers came from near Australia, where such laws are more lax. Otherwise, I wanna know how they got out!! And how do I get exotic species I want IN!!!!:hyper:
*wonders briefly about mudskipper refugee boats heading out of Australia to lands afar........decides probably not ..... *:D :D

as you said it may came from islands near australia .

the singaporien kind that i raised came from singapore and it looked like the ones from austalia .

so i belive that the australian kind is from the tropics of australia .

Anyway, its a great setup you have for them. Perhaps you can keep a journal on here about how they and their tank progresses. Mangroves - at least the ones here - grow huge. It crossed my mind earlier that you could try bonsai methods to make them into miniture but fully formed trees in your tank. Wouldn't THAT be cool? :hyper: *starts thinking about how to do it*
When I lived on our yacht, I used to watch the mudkskippers at low tide and they are certainly interesting, lively little characters. I bet they're great little guys :good:

Brilliant, I also have two periophthalmus species, Good idea to have herrmits in there as well :)
Nice one
