Ok so I saw some Leaopard Livebarers in at my favourite pet shop and am now wanting some info on them before I think about adding them to my current guppy tanks. They look like they are related to gambusia since the males are so small and have an extra long gonopdium. Would I be right in thinking that these fish are Phalloceros caudomaculatus? Would these cross with guppies?
Any other info on these fish would be helpful too.

Thanks

These will not cross breed, but are quite sensitive to water changes, small and regular water changes of 10-15% weekly is needed. We keep them in hard water at around 70[sup]o[/sup]f. Breeding is quite easy but you have to work to save the fry.

ok thanks for that, the males and females that I saw where sort of inbetween the pictures that have been posted for black spots. The first two male pictures posted is what the females looked like, but the males didn't have as solid black as the last picture of males (G.holbrooki).

Spotted females G. holbrooki are quite rare, although there a couple going around breeding true so again more likely to be P. caudomaculatus

Unfortunately I don't know which types we may or may not have in Australia, or which ones maybe available on the odd occasion. Apparently P. caudomaclatus is currently in Australia. Even with our strict quarrentine laws we still occasionally get certain aquatic creatures that aren't "officially" available in Australia. For example Cherry shrimp and Crystal Red Shrimp fall into this field. I might try and convince the other half to let me get a few, then I can take some pics of them and post on here for people to help decide which type they actaully are.
