Was getting signs of ammonia/ammonium in the water and believe the Nitrogen cycle has started again from scratch despite the tank being up and running for over 2 months now. Was told to do over a 90%/95% water change due to getting readings of ammonia/ammonium of around 3ppm which I done yesterday. I have been using amquel+ to treat the water as well as API stress coat but in a matter of 3 days the betta has gone from having full flowing tails to a fraying stump. Also got 2 other females in there 1's a crowntail who seems fine but the standard female has got signs of fin rot as well as the male.
Would be grateful of any advice or treatments recommended

I just posted this on your other thread...

Basically the male needs to be removed, ive already said that males and female bettas should not live together.

Anyway, do you have a spare tank and a spare heater??
The male needs to have daily water changes of about 90% to help his fins. Clean water is normally brilliant for fin rot but if its too severe (a picture would help) then I would try myazxin, this has worked brilliantly for me in the passed.

Aquarium salt will also help him...

Sorry about your fish's fins! The best you can do is keep monitoring the water and doing lots and lots of water changes. Fresh, clean, dechlorinated water is the best. (I've once treated my Betta with Melafix, because he had a white moldy looking blob on his fin when I got him from the original owner, his tank smelled kind of funky too)

That your tank started the cycle again is odd! Did you forget to dechlorinate the water during a water change? Did you add new fish to the tank? How big is your tank? And what are the readings now?

I personally wouldn't recommend melafix, there has been hoo harr about it affecting the labyrinth organ in the betta. I have used it in the past for fin rot and found it done no good...

I've got a small holding tank but it is only around 15 litres big. I have got a spare heater though and a very small filter. I am going to go and do tests soon on the tank to check ammonia, nitrite levels (etc.) I could do with getting some aquarium salt to help treat him. I've also got a side holder as well which I could put 1 of the females in to help her recover

15litres will be fine for him.
Like I said I would recommend daily water changes to keep the water 100% clean. A filter is optional in this case because his water will be changed daily but if you have one that's fair enough.

Huh, that's good to know, thanks. Thankfully my Betta was not experiencing any adverse effects from the Melafix....and the moldy thing went away! :good:

I done a 50% water change but I conditioned the water 1st. 1 of the problems could've been that the person helping me cleaned 1 of the sponge filters in tap water but I tested the water before the change and i had a reading of ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 1ppm & nitrate 40ppm n then after the change I got ammonia 1ppm, nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 0ppm but that was over a week ago and since then I have done around a 95% water change (yesterday) due to having ammonia readings of 3ppm but I think the 3ppm was ammonium rather than ammonia
