Got a strange family if bugs living on the lid of my tank, where the water settles on the underside of the lid.
Pic is not to good as they are tiny.
They look orange under florecent light and clear without.
Can't see them without lighting.

Anyone got any ideas ? IMAG0105_edit0.jpg

They are totally harmless springtails :good:. They will die if they leave the humid air around the aquarium, eat scraps of fish food, algae etc. from the waters edge and any dirty surfaces under the aquarium hood, make an occasional snack for fish, being so small they can walk on water and they will use their "tails" to jump if you try to touch them :).

Like I said, totally harmless, however if you don't like them, just give the hood and rim of the tank a good clean.

+1 with three-fingers they are collembolla or spingtails.
I have them also completely harmless.

well i didnt know that interesting to know :) do you see them on many aquariums?

They are very common and are one of many little creatures that can be found in a tank. An over abundance of them is the result of too many nutrients in the tank. I have those and a few other copepods in my shrimp tanks on a regular basis as there is no one to eat them and the type of substrate I have for my shrimps cannot be vacuumed as it is very delicate. If you don't like them and as said above, keep the lid and tank clean and avoid over feeding.
