ok is it worth buying 500grams of each element needed theses would be

Monopotassium Phosphate - 500g http://www.fluidsensoronline.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=190
Potassium Nitrate - 500g http://www.fluidsensoronline.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=180
Potassium Sulphate - 500g http://www.fluidsensoronline.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=193

for the macro's? right

and for the micro's would this do?

Trace Elements - 500g http://www.fluidsensoronline.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=198

this would total to £32. is this cheaper than buying the ready made ferts? for the amount (500ml of flourish is £12, which had water added to bulk it?)

also how much of each would you need to add
how would you do it. would some of the ingredients react with each other?
would this change the PH of the water? or kill off any fish?

Hi.. Visit this site. Tells you all you need about dry ferts. I'm now starting doing it with my new tank, this is my first week of using them.

http://www.ukaps.org/EI.htm

let me know how it turns out =] thanks for the site reading it now... i guess you could mix the dry stuff with water and does that to make it easier?

(im near Norwich as well =] )

iv got alot of questions still from reading that.

its more cost effective to buy the dry stuff.

but what chemicals do i need to buy are they the right ones ...

de-solving them in water before dosing the tank e.g making up a batch of ferts. would that be a good idea?

it wont change the water chemistry as in the PH?

You can get EI starter packs for about £18. They contain dosing bottles and a selection of the usual chemicals.

that seems about the same price as the raw chemicals + dosing bottles =D thanks i might pick one up

I do not bother with the potasium sulphate. instead buy some magnisium sulphate (epsom salts). The others you list are ok.

add the macros on alternate days to the micros for best results.

you could buy smaller amounts as the method used makes them last a while, the epsom salts is the one dosed the most. I get mine from asda.

I also add direct to the tank and dont bother mixing any solutions.

40 - 50% water changes weekly to remove excess ferts built up over the week. :good:
