Hi everyone. One of my male guppies' tail has been getting smaller and jagged lately. It used to be big and nice, but I think my other fish (Molly, Danio, Male guppy((the more aggressive ones))) may be nipping at his tail. I don't think it's a disease, since all the other fish in the tank are perfectly fine. I was wondering if there are any solutions to this other then moving him to another tank, selling him, or just letting it be?

Please? Help?

How many of each fish do you have and how many are males and females? You may have to re-home but it may be something as simple as adding one or two fish too. How big is your tank?

You can just look at my signature now, since I changed it. One of the males in my main tank is the fish I'm worried about. I suggested to my mom to put him in another tank, but she said no. =| 2 of my guppies are males and the others are females. The others I'm not sure. And my tank is 10 gallons.

Anyone please help?

But how can I be sure if it's fin rot?
do you have a fish store close by that has someone of any fish knowlage? if so capture him and take him there im sure they could identify it but it will slowly progress and spread to all the finns on the fish the tail will start to get real leggy and will most likely start to lose color.

this is what fin rot should start like.

You can't be sure, so I would opt for doing an initial 50% water change, then 25% daily water changes for the next 7-10 days. If it's fin rot, the daily water changes will help to improve it. If it's fin nips, it's just going to get worse. Leave the fish where it is. Or put it in a quarantine tank if you've got one.

My mom apparently doesn't care, I will try to get a pic of him so you guys will have more info on him. Part of the edge of his tail is grey and discolored, so I'm worried. I seriously will try to get a pic of him soon.

Okay so here is a picture of my male fancy guppy. I hope its nothing serious.

I know, but my mom doesn't want to buy anymore and our tank will be quite nicely stocked when the lone fry grows up and if we decide to keep him/her.

It would be fairer on the cory and danio to return them, they are both shoaling fish and if you're not prepared to buy more you shouldn't keep them.

The best cure for whatever is wrong with the guppy tail is plenty of clean water changes, daily if possible, as problems like this need good water quality to heal. You could treat the tank with a broad spectrum disease medication if you're really worried.

Okay, I'll tell my mom that.

I doubt my mom and I are up to daily, but maybe every few days.

Apparently my mom says (the cory and the danio) they are 'fine'. So...
