Hello all, i just recieved a new fish from a local pet store. I am told it is a Red Blue Loach and was told it will assist in a small snail problem i have in my tank. I cant seem to find any information regarding this fish. Looks more like a shark species to me than a member of the loach, I will work to get a picture added. Any help would be great on finding out what kind of fish this is. Thanks

did some research on the yoyo prior to looking to buy a loach and there are none avaiable in my area, so the pet store suggested the one i have, however i dont think its a loach at all, just took a few pics, posting now

Looks like a Pangasius Catfish species to me... These grow into 4 (yes, four) foot long fish!

oh good god... have fun with that one....

mt advice.... bag it up and take it back, make sure its in front of lots of customers and tell them loudly that you find it totally disgusting that they would sell you this completely unsuitable fish that not only wont do what you were looking for it to do but will grow to 4ft too!!!

Thats 4ft assuming it is one of the smaller species.... they can get far FAR bigger than that....

Pangasius Catfish, Shark Catfish, Cobbler, Irridescent Shark... they go by a lot of names...

I have on that at just over a year old... is 1.5ft long, hehad a tank upgrade from 190L to 689L and grew 3" in 3 months!

Thank you all very much for your help. He is bagged and heading back. Going to try another approach to tackle the snails. Sure wish i could find a Yoyo somewhere.

Assasin Snails may work but your best bet would be to remove any live plants and rinse them thoroughly to remove any snail eggs first, then add a group of say 3 assasin snails. I'm sure there are other loaches that may combat the problem.
