Fake Plants

Biorb plants are quite nice and the colours are very lush. Even their plastic ones are very soft and gentle on the fish.

When I was searching for artificial plants for my tank I just did a google search and picked out several that didn't look too naff. I know, live plants look best, but not everyone can have them in their aquarium so we have to find good alternatives.

So many aquarists are anti-fake plants but sometimes it's that or nothing. I tried live plants for the first year or so of keeping convicts but I wasted so much money on them week after week just to see them being ripped to shreds!

In my aquarium I have a mix of silky plants and soft plastic and it doesn't look too bad. I bought some of them from Pets at Home store, some from Pet Planet online store (very reasonable prices) and some from Amazon.

Shop around and compare prices first.

Here's a pic of my fakies to give you an idea how they look:

I've got about £80 worth from Seapets. Some have been used, some still in their packets. I've been meaning to put them on Ebay!

Went back to live plants.

They actually don't look too fake, so well done in your choices!

Where did you get that large, broad-leafed plant in the centre from? That rock cave is nice, too, especially with the plants positioned around it.

Maybe add just a few more tall background ones on right hand side?

Regards, Athena

that large, broad-leafed plant in the centre was called "Classica Plastic Plant : CPP17 : Anubias" , got from shop near me. well nice a.

http://www.aquatics-online.co.uk/catalogue/classica-plastic-aquarium-plants.asp

its a large one they only have small and medium there though.

Thanks for that - I'm going to get one! They look fab - very good choice. They look quite real! I like the spread of that Anubias plant.

I'm trying to create natural divisions in my aquarium to ease tensions between mated pairs during spawning. If they have plenty of foliage to hide behind it keeps them happy!

Best regards, Athena

yes they are nice, suprised really. the biorb are a bit over light green and think they will look better once they get some algae on them.
you can have mine for £30 lol

I recently bought £39 worth of the Biorb range, online. On whole honesty I wasn't to pleased with them.
Granted I did try live with it, after paying that much  but at the end of the day, I took it out. I'm with Clive, they are pretty vibrant
Maybe I should of chosen the Marine brand or Hagen OR better still, live plants.

Where plants are concerned, live or artificial. I think it's best to go to the store inclined and see and feel them, yourself.

Hi Swizz - yes, I agree about the Biorb plants being vibrant in colour. I have recently added a couple of small ones to my tank and they are very bright green under the lights, but mixed with all my other plants I don't mind it so much. They just look very lush and healthy LOL

There are some fake plants (like the Anubias that Clive bought) that really do look good - and there are some horrible cheap 'n' nasty varieties out there that not only look naff but often fall apart very easily.

Clive - I can't find the large size Anubias for sale anywhere online - will have to settle for the medium I guess. And no...I'm not paying £30 for one plant LOL

Might be buying some off Twinklecaz, though!

Have a good weekend!

Athena

i put a couple of live plants in at the same time and they havent touched them as yet , normally they are gone in 15 minutes. maybe there confused lol.
well I will see how they all look after time.
yes some are cheap and nasty or even dear and nasty and you are never sure how there gonna look until there in the tank.
