Okay. I am at my wits end with this stupid tank :X .....I have tried EVERYTHING to my knowledge on how to remedy cloudiness. All of the readings are at 0 -_- ....so it isn't cycling....it isn't a bacteria bloom as far as I can tell....

I have tried seeding it with the entire contents of crap from one of the 404's on the 180....nothing. I have tried water changes...nothing. I have cleaned the entire thing...the gravel is no worse than any of the other tanks. I just don't know. The fish are COMPLETELY fine, as a matter of fact, they are breeding like mad recently. :S

Here's the only thing I notice that is different...when I take the fluval apart from this tank....it is ALWAYS pretty much clean....it doesn't seem to be gunking up at all....see that makes me think that is the problem right there.....and you know what static smells like? That's what the filter smells like, not poo. :S I also have an Emperor 280 on here for extra measure....thought the bio-wheel would help.

I am lost. Anyone have any idea what I can do? Again, this is my absolute longest running tank....I don't think I should be having these problems. :/

Have you checked that the impeller isn't clogged or needs cleaning?
other than that you could used a chemical treatment from your LFS.
I have used "Sparkling Clear" aroud £5 in the past but I do not need now that I have a Rio Tank.

Sorry I can't be of more use

I have used bright and clear or whatever it's called...it didn't work at all.
The impellers and filters are fine...thanks for replying. :)

humm... have you tried taking your rocks out and cleaning them (the large rocks not the gravel) i would try that :D

When i had that problem i left my lights of for a few days and it cleared up , but i supose if you have live plants its a no no i think

Try running a 2nd smaller filter, but have it packed with only floss and a lot of carbon.

The rocks are completely clean, 4 plecos in there....the gravel is clean as well.

Maybe I will try the extra filter...although I don't have any carbon.

None of your tank filters have any carbon?

Have you floss in your filter?

>>> None of your tank filters have any carbon?

None of mine do.

Just my emperors have floss....but that's just because they have those stupid insert type thingies  ....other than that, it's 100% floss.

yeah, a pair of nylons, cut about a foot off, from the foot up, so it makes a little bag. Fill it pretty tightly with floss, soak it, and jam it in a filter. it works as a cheap scrubber.

Just turned it on....2 days after the clean, or whatever I did....thought it was looking better yesterday, but was still disgusted by it. Today it actually DOES look a lot better....hmmmm. Hope it doesn't go back to bad again. We'll see. :/

Here it is. :)

Chris,
I had the same problem with one of my tanks. Do the floss thing and also get an internal sponge filter to make the water sparkle. The sponge filter will polish the water and should clear up any cloudiness in a day or two. I would also turn the lights off for a few days as well.
Good Luck!

Debs -_-

Hey Chris...............by the way...............I leave for Wales in 5 DAYS!!! :kana:
I will be meeting the whole family etc.............can't wait!

Michael, I have no girls here to steal nylons from....and I definitely AM NOT going to buy some. :*) :p
