breeding is going wild in my main 55 gal tank I moved my two grown female guppies to a new 20 gal tank also their first 2 female fry. now there are no breeding guppy in main tank, have about 4 stages of fry, am watching closely for any females. I have 3 grown female platties their first fry are big enout to determine that they are female. mommas seem to be pumping out fry. this was to be an all male tank but at this point it seems much easier to move the one male platty to the female tank than 7 females plus however many more fry turn out female. question is will the male platties be okay with the female guppies. I never imagined this many babies. dh says no more tanks
ty for any help babies are us fish3 009.JPGfish3 005.JPG my two adult female, love big ones blue tail

The males may go after the guppies aswell as the platies, and you will have more babies.
As long as there are more females than males you will be alright.
You could try selling some of your fry, or giving them to a shop, the shop may also do a deal with you, exspecially if you have a load of them.

plattys can breed with guppies ? never heard of a plattygup

Platies and guppies will try to breed but there will be no progeny. The group that platies and swordtails belong to cannot successfully breed with the group that guppies and mollies belong to. They are just too far apart genetically. That will not stop a frustrated male from trying though.
Something to be aware of with any of the poeciliids is that females can carry sperm for the next drop for as much as 6 months after their last contact with a male. That means that it will take a while for your production line to stop producing fry.

darn wish I knew this sooner, been harassing my female plattys for 3 days trying to move them to the female tank, caught 4 babies, plus 4 guppies that snuck in. still trying to catch 3 large females, would have been much easier to just move sunny the male platty. treated both tanks for long white poo yesterday. lps reccommended aquari-sol anyone used it ? they say they use it whenever they get new fish in as a preventative. although I don't think I will ever bring in another fish.fish overload here
ty for all help. carol
