Hi,

I recently noticed that my Oranda has developed a few yellow marks around its gills on its underside dont seem to be causing it too much distress other than a guppy was having a go at it the other night (Nipping at these yellow marks)

Also one of my guppies is lossing its tail, originally looked as if it had been bitten off, small nip out of it, but seems to have gotten worse over the next couple of days. Although again not causing it too much distress. Thought i'd get some help though for it because its obviously causing me a bit of distress!

Tank has been set up for about 5 weeks and i'm new to this.

Yes I know I shouldnt have Goldfish in with these but no one will take them and I Like/Love them too much.

Tank size: 60L, W60cm, B30cm, H40cm
pH: 6.8
ammonia: 0.25ppm
nitrite: 0.25ppm
nitrate: 5ppm
kH: I dont know what this is?
gH: I dont know what this is?
tank temp: 21 [sup]o[/sup]C

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): To be honest both fish actually seem to behaving well, although one of the other guppies was nipping at the goldfishes gills on its belly. The guppies only strange behaviour is that it was glwing a bit last night although good to look at thought it might have something to do with it, at the time when this was happening all my guppies were doing it.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: Once a week at about 25 - 30%

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: I have an Elite StingRay 15 filter with the usual media and some ploymer filter wool

Tank inhabitants: 4 gold fish (Shubunkin, Blackmoor, Fantail, Red Cap Oranda) 12 Guppies, 1 Siamese fighting fish

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): Slate for decoration

Exposure to chemicals: Nutrafin, Bioclear

Digital photo (include if possible DSC00153.jpg):

Right, first of all, goldfish WILL eat guppies. I did what you did, loved my goldfish too much and wanted guppies, came downstairs one day to find a guppy in my goldies mouth. Not cool.

Your lfs should take either one of them, decide between tropical or coldwater now and everything will start to get better.

I also should stress that bettas (siamese fighting fish) do NOT mix with guppies well at all. They mistake their lovely long colourful tails as other bettas and will nip. That could explain the hole in the guppy tail.

Can you post a picture of the guppy?

Also, is the tank cycled? I would assume not at 0.25ppm of ammonia./.

And what are the Nutrafin/Bioclear chemicals? What are their names and why are you using them?
