So I just go to my LFS to order my goby.
Me: Hi can I order a wheelers goby.
LFS man: Sure ill just go have a look in the book.
Me: Thinking yay my next fish.
LFS man: Sorry there isnt a wheelers goby in the book.
Me: Okay can I order a watchman goby instead.
LFS man: Yes what colour would you like.
Me Yellow please.
LFS man: Sorry there isn't a yellow. He asks another colleague.
Other LFS man: They don't come in yellow there normally brown.
This left me confused how do they call themselves a fish shop and have never hear of a yellow watchman goby or a wheelers goby.

Use scientific names, he's more than likely confused between two or more species, I really wish scientific names would just become a hobby standard.

Yeah thats what he asked for me to do was to go back and get the latin name.
But still surely he would know what a YWG is?

Agreed :good:

Plus they are more likely to have to order in Wheeler's. They are not main stream marine fish. You could be lucky and have one within a few weeks.

I can understand where he's coming from, I work in an LFS and when there are 3000 different species of fish present it is impossible to try and recall every single one at a given opportunity, it's an easy mistake to make, always quote the scientific name when you're ordering fish, otherwise you could get anything.

Okay thanks.
Just found there latin name. And there also called a yellow prawn goby never knew that.

This is where scientific names have an advantage, there is often more than one common name for a species.

 I suppose it was me that was being a bit confusing

Yeh most fish generally have 3 "common" name but only one generic.

When i went to my LFS to order my yellow watchman Goby the chap showed me a brown goby in his book. I told him i wanted a bright yellow one and he showed me a picture of a sulpher goby.
I googled it when i got home and yes it was the same fish!
Very confusing but got there in the end.
Here is what i got in the end...
