Hi,
As the title suggests.. can anyone identify this algae? It appeared over the last few days in one spot high up in the tank. And does anyone know what would eat it?

That's new to me!.............Looks cool tho!

If it is algae then check your phos reading.

Did you say it's high up?............How long do you leave your lights on for?

did you check for leprechauns? i think its impressive looking stuff none the less

The second pic looks like something I have growing in my tank, I think it is a type of Caulerpa. Was it rock from another tank? I had always assumed mine was an outbreak of stuff that had escaped the refugium of the previous tank. I'm pretty sure a lot of fish will graze on them, although my Angel and Tang wouldn't even take Nori from a clip without a prompt they don't think it's food unless I'm holding it!

Just did another phosphate check 0.015( possibly a little less!)
my MH are on for 6 hours with my blues on for 2 hours either side.
It is really strange.. each leaf is 2-3mm across and it is only in one patch at the very top of the tank.
I do kinda like it!

Ah bless them!

No the rock has been in there from day 1 and it has only just popped up! i don't have a refugium and my sump(built into the back of the tank) is still full of bio balls.

If you like it then leave it! It makes for a more natural looking tank to have a bit of (very cool looking) algae and it will help keep nitrate/phosphate down. Also will give grazing critters another food source

Great, thanks everyone. Will leave it alone and see what happens. Anything that helps with nitrates and phosphates and is natural is fine by me!

Just need to make sure it does not take over if it grows like crazy. As i said it popped up in the last few days so if it continues growing at this speed i will have a tank full in no time!!
