Soooo, I'm going to the strawberry festival this weekend. They have the game where you throw a ball in the thing of water and get a prize. Usually it would be a goldfish but these guys sell anoles and hermit crabs. BUT, you can also buy them on the side instead of winning them in a game. So here is my plan: I'm going to buy them and tell my mom I won, oh, I dunno.. about 6 anoles... hehe. I doubt she'll believe me but you can't take em back!!! I have had a cage perfect for these little buggers fora bout 4 months just waiting and now is my perfect excuse to get some!!!

P.S. Isn't it weird how this forum was totally dead until POTM came around? hmmm...

one question,
do you know alot about anoles?
i would not put them in a cage
i would go for an aquarium
with lots of branches........ maybe a half terrarium?
and some would argue with me on this but in the shops, we would keep 6 to a 15 gallon, but for a perminent home
i would say a 20gallon with i tight fitting lid will do
some say a 10gallon would be sufficient,
but these guys can get up to 8" (most likely onle 5")
and it would be nice to give them some room
your so lucky :*)

I should have been more clear when I said "cage" :D

It's an 18 gallon tall aquarium with a heavy wire fitting top. Pleanty of hiding and climbing places and a shallow pool (big rock looking dish) at the bottom with reptibark bedding. I also have a repti hammock up towards the top and a red light basking bulb (50 watt) and a $25 Ultra UV bulb that gives off UVB and UVA rays. I have calcium suplements and a drip system. They would get mealworms and crickets, plus occasional mushed up strawberries or some other fruit. I do need to get some reptivines from Petco but then I'm all set!

Ha... all this stuff going to waste! I don't think so!!!!

Oh I forgot. There is a wooden cave thingy too

Oops, forgot something else :D . There is an undertank heater. You know, the little pad that sticks under the tank? It's under the water dish and takes up about half of the bottom area so they are nice and warm.

Here is what it looks like so far. Just imagine a nice background, some repti climbing vines and a few more plants of some kind. If I go to petco I'll buy some live ones :D

Hi Auratus :)

You're a sneaky one, aren't you? :shifty:

But, my real question is. "How did you manage to have a tank with no fish in it already?" :dunno:

Muahahaa

Actually I have an empty ten gallon and the empty 18. I didn't have any money to buy hoods, heaters, filters etc. But now :hey:

add some good quality potting soil and some easy plants to that set up and you'll never have to remve any organic droppings I had a 30 gallon set up for anoles that way for years

I was waiting for someone to ask that.

There are a few different kinds of anoles but the green anole is the most common around here.
