nitrate between 0 and 5
ph 7.4
hardness 80ppm, (slightly soft)
theres no sign of desease and no other fish in the tank any 1 have any ideas, also 1 female gave birth almost a day after i got them and all the fry are fine, non have died atall (if my countings right) .
thanks

Well, as your water and the fry are fine, I would suspect you've bought some highly inbred guppies that just can't take the stress or shock of being moved. It seems to be getting more and more common nowadays.

I'm sorry for your loss :-(

The same thing happened to me once. Although it was really odd, one would die first their fins would start dying in color to a pale gray and then their fins would just shred up. Then they wouldn't be able to swim and die. After that one would die, the next one would go too. I was told it was called "new tank syndrome". From adding too many fish at once. I may be wrong because Im also a beginner at fish so don't take my word for it. But now I add only one or two fish at a time and they are all perfectly fine. At that time, I bought 7 at once.

What makes you say that? I'm genuinely curious; I know quite a few people that just can't seem to keep guppies alive these days, compared to 20 or 30 years ago.

OP; is your tank cycled? How long has it been running and have you seen any sign of ammonia or nitrites at all in the last week?
Did you tst the day you put the guppies in, or the day after?

the tank had a mixed community in it for well over a year iv recently moved the community into another tank the tank was empty for around a week, there hasnt been any sign of ammonia or nitrite what so ever. my girlfriend went in the shop where i got them from yesterday after work and she said there under treatment so i might go in and see what they say.
to be honest i read that years of inbreeding and selective breeding to get better colours had weakened the breed and have been put of getting them befor, i only got them because my 3 year old son wanted them.

As fish48 says it is not the inbreeding that is the problem,it is the way the fish are intensively farmed and shipped around the globe. Then the wholesaler keeps them in a clinically sterile enviroment with efficient filtration and ultraviolet to kill most nasties off,the fish are stressed and
succumb to illness easily when put into the home aquarium as disease and parasites can lay dormant in the cleanest aquarium just waiting for an easy target,a healthy fish fights them off easily but stressed and weakened fish cannot

I Brought my first guppy’s over 30 years ago and back then it was the same story about inbreeding and how its not good for Guppies. even back then I remember seeing good quality and poor quality fish same as good shops and bad shops. The problem these days, compared to 30 years ago. Is simple there is a greater demand for the worlds most popular tropical fish. There are more and more fish farmers competing with each other
Guppy farming is a big business and as for most businesses its not about quality any more its all about quantity Guppies are produced and available in large numbers at all times. Guppies are shipped around the world by the thousands almost daily.
we will always see poor quality Guppies in the shops . most people seem to think when they see a poor looking or sick guppy or when they have a guppy/ Guppies suddenly die
thay believe it’s got to do with inbreeding . This is not always true. When buying your fish from a pet shop do you know were the fish as come from and the conditions that the fish may have been kept in or how long they have been in the shop for have they been properly acclimatize . Many people get home with there newly brought fish and try to do the best to keep the fish tank water in perfect conditions believing that there tank water must be Pristine extremely clean . This is not how fish live in the wild or on fish farms
One of the reasons why they die is that they can’t adapt to so many different conditions in such a short space of time. If inbreeding is a problem then why are we seeing more and more good quality Guppies these days If anything inbreeding has done more good then bad .30 years ago there were not that many shops or many guppy breeders about like there are now you can get almost any colour or fin shape. Know one will ever convince me that all these problems with Guppies is down to inbreeding it is nonsense.

i Brought these nice looking female Guppies from p@h last november
the only problem I have with them is i got to feed them lol.

thanks every body,
i went back to my lfs (p@h) and got a full refund they said they were having alot of trouble with there stock (just about every tank had dying fish in them) i then went to a small shop just around the corner, should have gone there before as i know they always have healthy fish. they had some really impressive dragon head tuxedo guppies so i think il see how the 2 remaining ones get on then maybe get some of them.
thanks gain
