I Took some Ilyodon ameca to a fish auction no one seemed to recognize it.
this species may be from a 1996 collection its a nice looking fish females have the black and yellow band in the dorsal fin.as for all the Ilyodons a very peaceful goodeid.

The I. whitei are very familiar to me. Mine are quite able to reproduce and increase their numbers in my tanks with minimal care and no heaters in their tank. On the other hand the Ilyodon ameca are a species I have not run into before. Your picture looks quite a bit like my Xenotaenia resolanae. Are you certain of your ID on those fish?

I have heard of them and seen pictures and the pictures I have seen match yours. Very pretty fish! I would love to get some! Nice pics and beautiful fish you have there Gary!

OldMan of Coarse i am certain of the id of all my goodeids. ok the photos are not thet good. may be your Xenotaenia resolanae are Ilyodons lol

The clearest thing to see is firstly the body shape, Ilydodn's are more stream lined, but look at the length of the dorsal. That make's it 100% Ilyodon and not a Xenotaenia, due to the base length.
 
I am back with you. I so often look at color patterns that I had not noticed the fin shape/size.
