 This is terrible! My 10 year old cat Mike is lost! It's worse here because there is a Fisher cat (which is a type of large weasel, about 40 inches long, hunts small animals and has been known to kill cats) where I live. Mike escaped about two weeks ago with his leash still attched but I was able to find him all tangled up in some bushes about half a mile into the forest. Now without his leash, he is likely to go much father into the woods! This a a nightmare! My house is surrounded with forest, so it's hard to see in the distance. I've been out searching for a hour, but no sign of him. I just hope he returns home safely! :-( :-( :-(

I'm so sorry to hear that,Sasha :-( You must be worried sick. Perhaps a can of food on the porch will persuade him in the right direction. Have you gone about checking the treetops? I know it's a long shot but maybe he's in one. Best of luck to your family and Mike!

:) Great news! Moments after writing this post, I went outside to search for him again. I started heading toward another direction that I haven't looked, and there he was was sitting on a rock! I was overjoyed! I approached him slowly and managed to grab him before he could escape back into the woods. What a scray experience! Mike is home!!!! :hyper: :hyper:

awwww, I'm so glad to hear that!!!! My daughter and I were just wishing him well, I'm so happy for you! Now go lock his butt on a leash!

Is this a sudden urge to get out or has he been doing it for 10 years?

Hi Sasha :)

Wow, I'm glad you found him! I was so afraid that I would get to a post with terrible news! :X

He was probably sitting somewhere, watching you look all over for him, the entire time!

Do you have a picture of him?

Hi Sasha, :)

That must have been a terrible scare for you. I am so glad to hear that he is home safe and sound.

:) Thank you all so much for your comforting words! I was so relived to find him! Can you imagine me searching for him for half an hour in the forest then finding out that he was close by the house! At least he's safe at home now!

 Here's a picture of Mike.

:) Thank you everyone . . . especially Sorrel for the nomination! He's been escaping for all of his life, si this isn't unual. Last year I moved to a new place, so he doesn't know these woods too much. Once he was gone for three days and then showed up on the porch, but that was back in an apartment. That's actually the reason of how he came into my family. I was only 6 years old at the time and I've been begging my parents for a kitten. One day we stopped at a furniture store that sold homeless kitten and there was this tiny black and one one that reached his arm through the cage bars, like he was saying "Take me home!" The employee said that a police officer found him wandering the streets and brought him. He was only 5 weeks old and the emploee had to feed with one of those kitten bottles.

In honor of Mike's return, I'd like to nominate him for POTM!
Hi Sasha :)

I'll second that!

Cats have an amazing ability to find their way home once they have lived there awhile. I've heard many stories about them doing that, even if it meant traveling long distances.

:D Thank you Inchworm for the nomination! Here's a better picture of Mike . . .
