Ive had my tank since November and everything on the whole seems ok.

Over the last few weeks, algae seems to cover everything. I think its Cyanobacteria as it forms sheets and does have a slightly blueish appearance.

Whats the best way of treating it. Its #41#### unsightly and its now getting to the point where im wishing i hadnt bought a tank in the first place.

I do normal 20/25% water changes on a weekly basis - do i need to do them more regularly?

Would taking all stones, wood and fake plants out for a while make any difference?

Do i need to add an aerating pump?

Im not sure the filter works well (fluval 2, it came with the tank), its always filthy when i change it.

I have a mix of black neons and zebras (about 6 of each), tank is a fluval duo deep, approx 74L.

Starting to get a bit frustrated by this.

All help, advice or abuse taken seriously

Time for a snail or two. Or you could just wipe everything down with a filter pad. If you clean it by hand you'll have to do it all of the time so I say, go with the snails.

You may also have room for a small pleco like a bristlenose, mine had a tank full of algae cleaned up in 2 days.

Plecs are the way forward like. I bought 2 baby's for my 200ltr tank they have cleaned it to a sparkling finish lol.

Just a question, is your tank in direct sunlight? How long are your light on for?

These are two factors the could be causing your algae problems.

The tank isnt in direct sunlight but the light is timed for 10 hours.

im switching it off for a few days to see if it helps, and ill invest in some Plecs.

Thanks for the info!

Yep, just get a fish to clean it, I have given up trying different things with mine, the only way to really get rid is to invest in a plec or algar eater (siamese)
